I thought in general unless you're typing a lot of correspondence, it was more important to know how to use Word than how fast you can type. I can't type for crap but I'm an advanced user of MS Office.

Define "can't type for crap."

I clock in around 40wpm - which wouldn't qualify me for a job as a secretary at the university I attended.

But if ten years of "how fast can you type?" threads on forum after forum have taught me anything, it's that 40wpm is actually pretty decent, and it's fast enough to impress most people in person too. I'd contend it's plenty fast, even if it's not "typist" fast.

It's important to know how to use your tools, absolutely, but a keyboard is one of those tools.

Of course no one is going to hire someone who's just going to pee on the office equipment.

Isn't there a golfer named Vijay Singh?

Has this guy ever heard of a piano or guitar?
He could change music, but, hey, if you want to be someone's secretary that's great for you.

Came for the Gattaca and Princess Bride references, leaving satisfied after only 5 posts.  Excellent work [golf clap].

What a weird thing to say. Being able to type faster (if having an extra finger would even help) doesn't really translate to "computer whizz" anymore than it does "great novelist" or "guitar virtuoso."

Vijay Singh... I thought he was a pro golfer. Well, twelve fingers would give him a better grip on the club... Ah, never mind...

This was in Gattaca, wasn't it? I remember thinking, well, that's not exactly an endorsement of the future if it takes 12-fingered pianists to accomplish what today a regular guy with 10 can.

If this makes him a better typer, then that makes him a superhero. An extremely lame superpower, but I'm sure Xavier's School needs a receptionist.

Vijay is a common Indian name, and anyone who's a Sikh most likely has the last name Singh.

I can type over 100wpm with only ten fingers, he needs to try harder.

I'm at about 65wpm, but that's still not anything remarkable. Some of the admin assistants I've known ("secretary" is so old-fashioned) can probably go more than twice that.

Born with 12 fingers, he rattles out more than 100 words a minute.

So, then... nothing special?

Using sign language he could talk circles around other hearing impaired people.
Or read braille twice as fast.
