Palin's a believer, and it did help her slide into moral decay.

One of the world's oldest nations?

Is she talking about France?

No, China.

Lor M. Ipsum: Good God, those are some wild, brainless ideas.  I bet her followers party like some crazy mother farkers.  I'm half tempted to convert and enjoy their batshiat crazy ways...who knows, it might be like trying acid for the first time:  you hear all these crazy stories about what its like to try it and how it changes your perspective on life forever.  Half of you wants to experience another world of existence, while the other half appreciates your grounded sense of reality.  Red pill or blue pill?  Damn, it's tempting...

I know you're just joking, but don't.  Just. Don't.  It can irreversably fark up your brain in a way that you lose connection with reality, see and hear farked up shiat, believe in all sorts of weird conspiracies, and altogether just aren't there any more.  A lot of people come back, seemingly fine.  Maybe even the majority.  But some don't.  I lost a few friends to it, who were once smart and funny, but now walk around like zombies, as if the very essence of humanity had been violently ripped from them, leaving an empty shell.  One now requires 24/7 supervision in a mental institution. This is why, when the topic comes up, I try to discourage anyone from trying Sarah Palin for the first time.

They were foaming at the mouth for sure in USSR, Albania, Romania, Ukraine, Hungary, Yugoslavia, Cambodia etc. Because their atheist state was kind enough to make sure of that.

And before you start the "but those were not atheist states" - derp, I was born in one and grew up in an atheist state who shot the priests in my grandmothers village. And razed churches that were over 500 years old. And forbade any form of religious practice because it was a threat to communist propaganda (the opium of the people and all that)

Palin's a believer, and it did help her slide into moral decay.

Technically, the USA is older than all but two countries in Europe when you take into account how shiat got changed around from WW1 to the fall of communism.

Ummm...in no particular order

Spain
Portugal
England
France
Italy
Vatican

All are older countries than USA. Some of the Nordic countries probably qualify as do the likes of Iceland and greenland. Germany/Belgium are probably in the running too.

Nope.  With the exception of England, all of those countries (I don't count the Vatican) have undergone fundamental changes in their entire system of government in recent history.

o_O

So that makes them not "countries"??? Nice try, but just because France went from a monarchy to a parliamentary system since 1787 doesn't somehow make it a "newer" country than America. They may have newer governments; but the political, economic and social entities have been firmly in place for well over a thousand years.

Given that European countries try to invoke the supposed youth of the USA when arguing politics, the duration of a stable system of government is quite relevant.

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard you say.

Since it's you making that statement, I'll take that as a compliment.

So according to your brilliant logic I would say that the USA has only existed since 1865.

2013-11-09 04:31:28 AM

Halli: So according to your brilliant logic I would say that the USA has only existed since 1865.

There's a difference between a civil war resulting in a regime change and a revolution of significant magnitude to hit the reset button on the vast majority of what makes a culture a culture.

For instance, Great Britain's transition from real monarchy to modern democracy was a series of bloody civil wars that gradually shifted it all the way around, but each transition kept most of the industry, customs, etc.  France's revolutions going from monarchy to democracy involved tearing the country and all of its traditions and standards down to nothing and starting over completely from scratch.

So saying the the UK is a continuation of the same nation that sent knights to the Crusades is sort of reasonable, but saying that about France is like saying that modern Mexico is a continuation of the Incan Empire or that Alabama is just the new name for the Cherokee nation.

Same deal for China.  They very intentionally destroyed or discarded everything about China from before the revolution, then started from scratch.  It wasn't just a case of new farkers in charge.

2013-11-09 04:40:46 AM

hardinparamedic: Sure they are. You just seem incapable of understanding the concept of State as Religion

That is some weird concept you have there. It is not unheard of, but it is not supported by any modern scholars. But since we deal with facts here, let me give you a counter example (Hopefully you will understand)

State atheism which is totally different from the secular state, is the official promotion of atheism. In none of the cases I mentioned, was State a Religion (which is a very schizophrenic construct if you ask me and is weak position to defend). On the contrary: The Soviet Union had a long history of state atheism, in which social success largely required individuals to profess atheism and stay away from houses of worship; this attitude was especially militant during the middle Stalinist era from 1929-1939. (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/League_of_Militant_Atheists ). Moreover, Albania, China, Cuba (especially Albania) actively promoted atheism.

Nowhere in modern literature is the concept of State as a Religion to be found. By modern literature I do not mean Dawkins (I think he came up with this concept and it slowly took off).

Thank you.

Unless there is some reason that communists couldn't have been as brutal as they were unless they were atheists, it's irrelevant.
Neither atheism nor religion are necessary components in human brutality - so the only discussion possible seems to be a childish "Well, you guys are bad TOO!" type of argument. OK if that gets you off, I guess.
