Strangely, to tie this in with the Abrams thread below, he initially wanted Michael Keaton to play Jack Shepard.

The Beetlejuice universe has a lot of territory it can explore.  The idea of a red-taped filled bureaucracy ruining your afterlife is a fairly amusing concept, and would still apply today.  They should go with a different plot concept, not rehash the "newly dead needs to scare away annoying house buyers".

I would so love to be excited for this, but without Michael McDowell on board to write the script, I just don't see that it will have any of the same flavor as the original movie. Let's be honest, Tim Burton's aesthetic and directorial style have changed quite a bit since those glorious early days.

I'll watch this and love it even if it is a steaming pile of crap just for Keaton's performance.

Mixed on feelings for a Beetlejuice sequel. There's potential for it to work, and potential for it to be craptacular crap.

For the Farkers mentioning Three Amigos 2: I think Chevy Chase is too old for the part, the other two could still pass. Unless it's the Three Amigos in Franco's Spain foiling the Nazis 25 years later and Chevy is a grumpy, dementia-addled old actor/hero. Or Steve Carell takes over for Chase's role.

I'd actually like to see a modern remake of Ruthless People myself. The movie Is funnier now when you imagine Danny DeVito talking about Rhea Pearlman when he starts talking about how much he hates his wife. Probably could give a DeVito's character a cameo shot a la the Duke Brothers in Coming to America.

Hey, there's an idea: how would the Dukes rise back to the top in today's economy? Too bad Don Ameche and Ralph Bellamy are long dead, but there's probably actors that could do the roles.

And if we're talking about '80s rehashes, how about getting the third movie of the Buckaroo Banzai/Big Trouble in Little China series?

Most of Tim Burton's movies are complete rubbish.  I expect this to be a failure as well.

I'll bet it will be about an adult Lydia who still lives in her parents house and the return of Beetlejuice to straighten her out after her loser husband has run off with the real estate lady's daughter who took over her reality business and wants Lydia's house because it sits on an oil well.  Hilarity ensues when Lydia tries to get her loser husband back with the help of Beetlejuice only to fall for the adopted son of the psychic and his husband and the son turns out to be the child the original doomed couple from the first movie who had put him up for adoption when they were in high school and the son dies by the hand of the real estate lady, because he wouldn't marry her daughter in the first place, so Lydia has to bring him back from the netherworld.

You should be killed for even mentioning that... You realize we are on the internet and some producer might read it and get ideas? In fact where do you live?

For GODS SAKE don't let them ruin/cheapen those two great great movies!

I'll take 80's rehashes but only if they also include the cheesy synth music from that era.

I have an idea, and I'm not sure this would even work, but how about if they do make another one, you simply don't go see it? I know it sounds crazy, I mean the way they force us to see every movie that comes out and all, but I suppose you could give it a try and see what happens.

In occasional moments of moral weakness I have wondered if there's perhaps some way to get hold of pre-rotoscoped footage from Through a Scanner Darkly.

I think this should've been obvious tag.  Keaton would probably work for a ham sandwich these days, let alone appearing in a Tim Burton film to reprise one of his most iconic roles.

I think they should get Peter Weller and Jeff Goldblum to do Buckaroo Banzai 3, where 2 was them getting their asses kicked by the World Crime League in 1990, and it's taken 25 years to put together a good enough team to break their world domination stranglehold.

is Winona Ryder going to steal the show?

2013-11-08 06:06:10 PM
OH NO! Not him!!!

Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter was just about the WORST movie I've seen in the last decade!!! I actually turned it off 3/4 of the way through, and I never do that. I will sit through bad movies. But that one STANK.

2013-11-08 06:06:52 PM
...On the other hand, if they can get Winona Ryder to show up, I'm interested.

...If they can get her topless, I'm in.

There's potential here.  I could see Lydia returning to the house with her kid.  Her parents both died recently (no need for O'Hara or Child Molester Jones to come onto the movie) so she's confronted with selling the house.  The Maitlands have moved on (if they can't get Alec Baldwin or Geena Davis to return).  Lydia tells her kid about the Maitlands, etc.  Kid finds something in the house about Beetlejuice and asks Lydia about what it means.  Of course she warns her kid.  But, she could learn her parents can't move on into the afterlife for some plot device reason so she ends up summoning Beetlejuice to help out.  Kinda keeps the characterization from the cartoon too where she relied on Beetlejuice to help her out in certain situations.

Beetlejuice is a topic I hold near and dear to my heart.  I'm afraid that if the baby Jesus descended from the clouds of Heaven and carefully hand crafted the movie from unicorn farts and the sweat of 1980's Tim Burton himself, any sequel, prequel or spin-off there of could never live up to my high expectations.

So Imma say flunkitall.  Make it now.  I'm constipated and need to shiat on something. Or in something.  Or, I don't really know how regular folks defecate so I'm really just fishing for the right answer here.
