This would have been a far more entertaining thread if somewhere on the linked website or in the headline there was referenced a "real stouts only, no Guinness" rule.

I'd love to try it, but haven't been able to find it yet...  Guess I'll just crack another can of Ten FIDY.

Pretty sure they only made the one batch and now that it's sold out, good luck getting them to make a second one.

Not that it's a stout, but I was mad to miss out on the lottery for the Westvleteren.

/and I'm not even a beer snob....

2013-11-08 02:38:46 PM
I have two W00TStouts aging thank you very much! I think I will keep them a bit longer. Enjoy that Ten-Fidy Timujin

2013-11-08 02:38:48 PM
Weirdly, I have one of those aging in my hipster beer cellar. Also have half a growler of the Outer Darkness in the fridge right now, too.  Getting very thirsty    <homerdrooling.jpg>

Listen you drugged-up communist. I'm drinking whiskey today and there's nothing you or your Red friends can do about it because I'm a Freedom-loving American.

Bad website warning from my virus protection.

Maybe I'll celebrate anyways.  You know - just go crazy and have a stout after I put the kids to bed.  Maybe two.
/Whoa.  Haha, kidding.  Only one.  Only one.

2013-11-08 02:39:35 PM
Only 2 more hours before I pour a tall Keegan's Mothers Milk.  Make that 1 more hour.  Who am I kidding, see ya.

pretty awesome brew...had it at the Stone Anniversary in august.

2013-11-08 02:40:39 PM
I've still got a bottle of it in my beer fridge in the garage.... quietly taking up a prime spot in the upper back corner.  Maybe today.

/or maybe not yet.

timujin: I'd love to try it, but haven't been able to find it yet...  Guess I'll just crack another can of Ten FIDY.

Ten Fidy is one of the best stouts you can get in the country, and you can get it all the time.  Which makes it even better.

I will take the headline's advice and drink my W00tstout tonight.

Other suggestions for stouts that don't suck:

Left Hand Milk Stout
Stone Russian Imperial Stout
Southern Tier Choklat or Creme Brulee
Northern Coast Old Rasputin
Ballast Point Sea Monster
Sierra Nevada Narwahl

Excellent stuff, pours like motor oil.

And re: the Guiness snark above, Guiness is a fine beer. It's like alcoholic chocolate milk.

2013-11-08 02:50:34 PM
I bought two, and drank one the first day. I believe it could use a little more aging; maybe I'll crack it on the first day of spring.

Whatever. I'll just wait for the 21st annual Mountain Sun Stout Month and partake of as many of the 60+ they'll have on tap over the month of February.

Here's last year's line-up:

///Girl scout stout... not so good (probably not made with real girl scouts)

Damn all I have at home is Tawny Port... is that OK? Being Portly is synonymous with being Stout.

/ I don't often drink beer but when I do its stout... or a porter.

That beer is a myth.  So I'll join netweavr and drink a manly mug of whiskey instead.  Then I'll drink some rum.

Bullshiat.  They totally mellow out after a year and take on complete different (and sometimes better) flavors, unless you meant aged for decades.  Then no, no they don't.

My local Costco had Wil's stout for a fleeting moment so I picked one up.  I'm not a big stout fan (IPA is more to my liking) but the W00tstout was pretty damned good.

Cheers!

I've never had a stout
Don't know what it's about.
If I had had a Porter
My poem would be much shorter.

I have had an ale
I think it was quite pale
I may have had a lager
But of lagers, I'm no hogger.

And as for having Pilsner
I can't think of a rhyme ....

Marshall wharf pemaquid oyster stout. Tastes like the bottom 2 inches of the bilge, if by some miracle that tasted good. God I miss Maine sometimes.

There's a British ale called Old Peculiar. In this case, peculiar means particular to, as in the brewer's special reserve.

I discovered that if I move my cursor over the scroll bar (so to speak) it showed other labels, some of which make Old Peculiar seem the epitome of decorum and taste. I guess they must have named their newer offerings after drinking a lot of their original offering. These offerings include a bitter, a cream ale, and something called "Cooper's Butt". Of course it's the cooper's butt. That's what coopers do. Make butts.

Saugatuck's Neapolitan Milk Stout is coming out in a couple of weeks. Last year's was freaking awesome.

Also, Bell's Black Note stout is the best bourbon barrel aged stout I have ever had.

For those who haven't tried the wootstout, it is a typical Stone beer. Everything dialed to eleven. Lots of malt, lots of Bourbon barrel flavor and (alcohol) hot. I hope aging (oxidation) over a year or two helps it.
