They just had one of these in Orlando. I couldn't make it, but I love the idea.

crispy bacon is far superior to limp bacon. Dark beers are best for winter, and blondes and pilsners for the warmer months.

I'll be heading to "Bacontopia" in Bethlehem, PA this weekend:http://www.artsquest.org/pages/details.php?58452

/sadly, the "beer" part is only Yuengling

I went to the one in Boston a couple years ago and they sold too many tickets and ran out of bacon. So be careful what you wish for.

Craft beer and bacon at the same festival at the same time?  This is surely the event horizon of hipsterdom.

I love Yuengling, but it's probably more for the novelty of it since I live in Chicago so I only get to to drink it when I head East or South. I do think it has way more flavor than the big 3 macros at pretty much the same price point.

Same here.  Me and the wife are heading there with another couple from work.  Yuengling pretty much has ArtsQuest by the balls.  We're skipping the bacon festival in Easton, though.

Only if it's tofu bacon.

First thing I thought of as well. My advice to them is to take the expected turnout number and triple it.

They have events like this regularly in Baltimore.  Beer and bacon, Bourbon and bacon, crab feasts.  They're probably pretty cool, but I've never been able to justify the $50+ per person.  Get a group of 6 people together...and you've got $300 to work with.  I can buy a hell of a lot of beer and bacon with that kinda money.

The one in Bethlehem (Bacontopia) has a set number of tickets and 11 stations for bacon dishes.  You get one of those "passports" (I hate that gimmick) to get stamps from each station so it is a bit more structured than a bacon free-for-all.

And how do you run out of bacon at a bacon festival?  It's like when I went to a rib joint with my Dad, sat down, ordered drinks/apps THEN the server tells us they are outta ribs.

the ribs failure makes a lot more sense.  it takes hours to properly prepare ribs (perhaps half a day or more, depending).  so, it takes a lot of foresight to prepare for each service. that's a failure of guessing how many people are going to eat in your restaurant one day.  also, why many bbq places will say, open till we run out, or something to that effect.

but, server should have said it the moment you walked in the door.

it takes minutes to prepare bacon, and you can just keep that stuff in a fridge or cooler until prep time.  so, that's a failure of inventory.

Yeah, could have explained better. The way the one I went to was set up: a bunch of different local places had tables where they had some sort of cool bacon-related recipe/treat/thing. But there were so many people that while you were in line for the first half of the tables, the other half had run out of their things. So it wasn't like there was one giant bacon provider that didn't have enough. It was just organized badly and oversold.

Good point; Yuengling does appear to be the monopoly there, which makes for a very disappointing Oktoberfest (but a very tasty Yuengling Oktoberfest milkshake).

Yes it does indeed :)  Have fun at Bacontopia.  I'll be the only person (I think) in a Detroit Lions jacket

Every mid-size city has a bacon festival now.

Contrabulous Flabtraption: Every mid-size city has a bacon festival now.

But not every mid-sized individual has to go to one. I bought a lb. of bacon
the other day. It was as tasty as I remembered it to be but not particularly worthy of the amount
of geek love that it gets. It's piglet parts soaked in chemicals. Don't get me wrong, it's delicious, but you nerds
are just asking for trouble.
