Reading the recap, I see two things sticking out: one is the World title tournament, which unlike WWE's one-night tourney while Punk banged Lita in Chicago, has been thought-out and paced to last several weeks. That's a good thing. TNA's storylines have become more and more basic, traditional wrestling plots ever since Bischoff and Hogan were cleared out. The downside is they don't excite anybody. How many times have Samoa Joe, Bobby Roode, Kurt Angle, Magnus, Sting, et al faced each other in some configuration?

But TNA's not without their continuing continuity problems and huge bungles. Case in point, Adam Jones, the world's worst former tag team champion, is back in TNA.

Aces & 8's on the bargain bin is the last trace of Bischoff's influence on TNA, so the group petering out and bickering reflects TNA's real-life grievances with a guy they foolishly trusted for several years, and burned them at every turn. It's not really fair to Bully Ray that it ends like this, but the stable's never taken off and constantly lost when they needed to win, or won via cheating as far too many TNA heel groups often do, making the faces look like utter crap in the process. So hopefully this is the last of TNA's big, company-wide storyline disasters.

Alright, so the Knockouts. They have a decent amount of experienced talent, but like the men, they've all wrestled each other countless times to where the drama is gone. Lady Tapa brings some rookie freshness to the roster but other than her, who have we seen that's lit fire to this division? Taryn Terrell certainly did but she'll be out for a year for her pregnancy and maternity (I wouldn't be suprised if TNA lets her go too, since that's TNA's MO i.e.: Jesse Sorenson and Daffney). Losing both Mickie James and Tara crippled an already wounded division. Sure the few women left have loads more talent than the average WWE diva, but it's hard to stay interested if there's no fresh angles left with old names.

Regarding the Anderson/Bully feud, it's a logical extension for the dying Aces & 8's but still, when's the last time Ken Anderson did anything to make someone care about him? Putting him up against the company's biggest heel is worth a little but when your character's been a snarky goon for the last year, it doesn't exactly cry out for sympathy heat. Anderson needs more than just "pissed off ex-club mate" to make this worthwhile.

Oh and the swerve was f*cking dumb and unearned. So LOLTNA.

I'd have to see the ECIII match to get a better gauge but so far, the ex-Derrick Bateman's been good at this gimmick. He's also working indies under his real name, btw.

Bad Influence wins via Appletini: I'm okay with this. They're still this company's MVPs, and are well above TNA's tarnished titles at this stage.

Hardy vs. Sabin. Again I have to see this one to better gauge it. I just find it weird that a World title run somehow set Chris Sabin back as a character. For his brief run, he showed heart in his promos and then he's a heel who wants to rule the X division, while ALSO trying to become World Champ again. And he's an abusive boyfriend immediately after being set up with Velvet Sky - no build up, no intros, no honeymoon period. Also he lost tonight. Poor guy. His booking is like a Hogan sex tape.

Overall I'm going to catch bits of this show on Youtube to get some visual examples, but to me, Impact exclaims, "Well, we gotta be here, so let's do this until Billy Corgan buys us." The company is in yet another transitional phase, one it never seems to be out of, but at least for now there's no rats named Misty or tag teams dressed as penises for a change.

WCW was pretty successful for a while before it took a tun for the crapper. TNA hasn't done the successful part yet.

TNA could be a lot better if they got some decent writers and let the talent show their skills. For a while there, I was actually enjoying it. yes, I admit it. But it has gone back into the crapper.

What do you expect when you've got the same creative team that ran WCW into the ground running
TNA?

WCW's "successful" period was largely based on the lingering reputation of the WWF cast-offs they paid
too much money for.

But that's fodder for another thread, I think.

Ugh.

How can he be reading Amazing Spider-Man from The Gauntlet era?

I dropped he book in that timeframe because of the shiatty art, and in trying to reread the BND stuff, stopped reading in roughly the same spot because the art was just so farking horrible, and I really didn't care about Kraven's jailbait daughter sending a bunch of second rate villains against Spidey.

He should have been reading Spider-Girl, or Fantastic Four or Young Avengers, or one of the many other great books from that time period.

/but no DC. DC is like WCW 2000, except run by five Vince Russos.

DC should buy TNA and make it....nuTNA and reboot all the storylines...while keeping some of the storylines intact...just not how you remember them!

I only wish Marvel could pull a Vince and buy DC's assets for pennies. Because dammit, Marvel wouldn't job out the DC Characters the way Vince did the WCW crew.

Unfortunately, DC Characters are too valuable in other media to let the characters go, so the comic books stay around and turn to shiat.

/What else do DC and WCW have in common? Both were ruined by Time Warner's incompetence.
