Sshhh. This is a place for making fun of incompetent government! You are smarter because they do stupid things! Now hush your mouth and say something derogatory about State road workers.

I wonder what color the leaves were, with it being Fall and all.

3 vehicles spread out over 1000 ft. The rear vehicle is probably a dump truck with one of those big ass protection barriers attached to the rear. The front vehicle is likely just a truck with flashing lights. I can see not wanting to stop either the striping truck or the protection one, but, no reason the lead vehicle can't stop for 30 seconds and move a small pile of stuff like the one pictured. Especially since they are moving at probably 15mph.

Government workers smell like roadkill because they steal the roadkill off the street to fill their pilows and make them comfortable since decomposing corpse constantly shift and conform to your head and neck throughout the night.

This is such a farking outrage. Unions with their inflexibility and inability to be adaptive and responsive to new demands has led to this. It's the ultimate in "not my job", and it makes things worse off than if they had never done the job in the first place.

15MPH is a 4 minute mile, roughly 21.1 fps. Your 500' lead will be gone in 23 seconds. Add the time you need to accelerate your vehicle back to 15MPH, and I don't think OSHA regs will allow it. Too much of an accident risk. Damn gummint.

City governments really can't win. It's pretty much just solid petty complaints, no matter what they do (with a few well-run exceptions)

Hey! Them damn leaves is ORGANIC! No one on that crew had any right to touch or move them leaves. Keep you asphalty hands off a my Midicare...er...leaves...nature...ah fukit. Never mindWhere my drink?

I guess the idea of running a street sweeper ahead of the convoy is just too much.

2013-11-07 08:42:49 PM
I'm more outraged that the city decided to work efficiently.  Don't they realize that's job-killing behavior?

2013-11-07 08:45:54 PM
Or they could have, you know, LOOKED ahead of time and gotten everything ready for painting.

2013-11-07 08:48:41 PM
The question is, why did city management schedule painting for this time of year?

You've got 10 months out of the year when there aren't leaves on the ground.  Do the painting then.

2013-11-07 08:50:06 PM
I bet they wouldn't have painted on Elvis if he were lying in the road.

"Moar unions under attack by neo-nazis!  Imagine, taxpayers asking for something better than a half-assed job."

Of course, if they're forced to get out of their trucks, somebody, or everybody involved, will screw their back up and will have to go on full disability.  So it's your call, taxpayer person: painted roadkill or disabled workers training for marathons, on your dime.

duh, leaf movers are in a different union subby

The fall is paving and patching season. Makes sense to stripe after you repave and not before...

Excuse: But we have a long convoy that actually paints those lines at a steady pace -- we can't just stop and clean things as they come up! It's for safety!

BS!

Just put a cleaning crew at the head of that long convoy. Scrape it, Sweep it, or whatever it takes so you don't need to go back later and fix things.

Why?  Should be spring - any front heaving (minimal in Memphis) is going to happen over the winter, not the summer.

It's most likely more cost effective to send the crew out for small, targeted jobs rather than having the crew tag along for the entire trip. Gotta pay for their time, like it or not.

In other words, what looked like sheer laziness amounts to staying safe.

Someone buried the lead.

But hey, why not when doing so elicits indignant howling from anti-union mouth-breathers?

What true statements have you ever made here? Nothing you say is even of a factual nature - it doesn't even measure up to being wrong, dude - be serious. Your dumbass opinions aren't truths, any more than mine are - but at least I know it.

Yeah, but it's his "true opinion" that they can't be fired, and therefore, to him, the "truth". He doesn't differentiate between factual matters and matters of opinion - to him, his opinions ARE facts. And that's OK at his age.

I suppose that's one way to deal with the realization that half the shiat you've believed for the past 60 odd years is wrong and it took a young conservative on the internet to point you in the right direction. That brief, painful thought aside, I was referring to his comment. Not anything I said.

businesses have made better products with new technology and less people, goverment has the new technologe but hires more people, that  sound like just making work to me. this is the results. making work that is payed for by tax payers is not new jobs.
