"I held back my snarky comment that said 'Well, you know what, we already have someone from Kenya as President of the United States.'"

Well may I say thank you personally for holding back your snarky comment so you could unleash it upon the American public.

It only offends me because it's not even a good joke.

What's the problem? It's just a joke. He didn't actually say it. He probably didn't even go to an orphanage... or Kenya. In fact even he was probably made up just as a vehicle to make that joke.

It's an illustration of what Republicans think is funny.

Mocking the less fortunate to score political points is their idea of high comedy.

Former Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul, who offered his endorsement last month, called Hill "exactly the kind of person Colorado and this country needs in the US Senate."

Just making sure this gets out there, since it required Ring TFA.

This - THIS, Republicans - is who your party is nominating and saying is exactly the ind of person who needs to be in power.  And so, I'd just like to ask: HOW THE EVERLOVING FARK CAN YOU BE A MEMBER OF THAT PARTY??

First: A Republican candidate from Utah who is hoping to unseat Sen. Mark Udall (D-UT)
Then: Ron Paul, who offered his endorsement last month, called Hill "exactly the kind of person Colorado and this country needs in the US Senate."

Is he from Colorado or Utah?

Rand Paul employs white supremacists as campaign staff and openly campaigns against civil rights legislation, and is already elected. I'm pretty sure an idiot birther joke is the least of our concerns with these people.

I don't know anything about his background but a shiatty sense of humor doesn't disqualify someone from office. I mean, with all the things that members of the GOP do to make them bad candidates, relating a story about not telling an unfunny joke really isn't the camel breaker

"Well, you know what, we already have someone from Kenya as President of the United States.'"

It's that subtle hint of racism. It's like when Palin was touring America and calling out all the "Real Americans" to help get out and vote for the GOP. Get it? Real Americans? *hint hint, wink wink* she's talking about specific people here, and claiming the rest are unfit to even be called Americans. But she didn't outright say it.

It's extremely transparent, but she didn't technically say it. Sure does fire up the base though. This is why a lot of posters claim that some people are being racist when they say Obama isn't from the US, etc.

A similar thread was made last election season when Rmoney made a similar joke. It was obvious he was joking, but everyone here was up in arms calling him a birthing retard. Then again, considering the amount of Democrat dick that gets sucked on this tab on a daily basis, it should be expected...

People make jokes around here all the time implying that the Pres is from Kenya. I really don't think this is an egregious example of why the GOP is unfit for office in a general sense. Rape wands and gay marriage bans? Nah, this guy almost told an unfunny birther joke

The point is not that the occasional kook reveals himself /herself to be a birther - every group has its lunatic fringe.

The problem is that the GOP as a whole have never stood up to that lunatic fringe and told them to STFU.  They instead gladly courted votes from these fools by giving them a *wink wink* legitimacy or by at least not challenging their juvenile fantasies.

...to the point that the teabagger lunacy is now biting the GOP in the ass.
