Pfft. I see married guys at the mall do it all the time.

2013-11-07 02:16:36 PM
The number of times they say "Vera Bradley purse" in that article makes it seem like Vera Bradley astroturfing.

2013-11-07 02:56:16 PM
He should be suspended for wearing last year's pattern.  It's almost winter, he should have switched to Canterberry Cobalt by now.

Well, *that* purse, sure.

FTA: Skylar Davis (w/purse)

THEN: School personnel then called his mother, Leslie Willis, to come get her son.

THEN:  Dakota Haight said the situation with his brother is unfair.

there are many shenanigans going on here.

Once I carried my then-gf's purse just cause it went with the ensemble I was wearing.

Sooooo... It's not actually in the handbook? I know the rights of teens are basically suspended in school but aren't you supposed to actually cite a rule when suspending someone indefinitely?

I smells a lawsuit.

/wait, what?

Is this a case of gender discrimnation or are they just helping a person with bad taste?  Vera Bradley bags are just an overpriced oven mitt with a strap.

2013-11-07 03:35:01 PM
I'm confused. Was he in trouble because he stole the purse from someone named Vera Bradley?

2013-11-07 03:35:02 PM
Dude's name is Skylar, and he's carrying a designer purse.

If he's not gay, then he needs a punching.
If he's gay, then he needs to sue the crap out of the school district.

2013-11-07 03:35:11 PM
I have often thought it must suck for guys to have to cram everything they want to carry on them into their pockets while we get to carry purses. But then again, teenage boys don't need to carry tampons, which is the primary reason girls start carrying purses in middle school.

That bag is a fashion faux pas and I am horrified that no one suspended him sooner.   My God, what is this world coming to when such a deplorable choice of purses is allowed?

Phoenix_M: It's a man bag

I thought a "man bag" was a male anatomical structure.

TFA: "It expresses myself and I think everyone else can wear it, so I wear it as well," Skylar told KCTV5's Dave Jordan.

He should be suspended for treating his possessions -ones that he didn't even make, no less- as expressions of himself. The rest, not so much.

To quote the great Monty Python...

I cut down trees, I wear high heels, suspended and a bra. I wish I'd been a girlie, just like my dear mama...

Now what's wrong with that? Nothing!

2013-11-07 03:38:59 PM
He was suspended for having no fashion sense

I was expecting yet another "parent registers kid in a school with a dress code, kid breaks dress code, parents go crying to media" story.

You don't "carry" a purse. You rock it.

On the upside, men's pockets are actually functional compared to the ones on womens' jeans... little consolation every time my keys turn sideways in my pocket and jab my leg.

Kansas.  Been there.  Nuke them from orbit, it's the only way to be sure.

What kind of bag was it again? I'm not sure they mentioned the designer in the article. Shame. Could have been some good advertising for said manufacturer, if only they'd mention the designers name. In the article. Somewhere.

If he wants to look like a pussy and be ridiculed by his peers, let him.  Or zero tolerance.  No purse for him, no purse for the girls either.  Let's see a little dose of that gender equality.

Totally.

I would sue them, and then say "Hey, how about instead of paying me,  you fire the principal of the school, the superintendent, and the entire school board?"

Public schools in this country suck because of the the administation. They're all incompetent a-holes on a power trip. ALL of them. Across the entire country. Nobody that isn't worthless works for a public school system.

The feds need to take over the public schools entirely. Take the petty tyrants at the local level out of the equation entirely.

It's not hard. She's going by her maiden name. The boys have different fathers.

You know, there may be something to this. Why haven't schools banned both purses and pockets, which could be used to conceal weapons, and required students to carry all their things in clear plastic bags?

2013-11-07 03:50:13 PM
If the kid can't afford to carry a Coach purse, then he shouldn't be carrying at all.

I'm surprised how accepting you guys are :D. Sometimes you guys make me feel all warm and gushy. Thanks

He should have just blown the principal like he was asked and he'd avoided all of this nonsense.

Let me tell you everything I know about Garnett, Kansas.

- You get there by going the other way on the Ottowa exit off I-35.

That's the only thing I know about Garnett, Kansas, and I've lived in this state for 40 damn years.

It's the way it is because it's a system that relies almost entirely on federal funding and only hires members of the national union. That's how it got this way in the first place.

I'm nearly 50, and I carry a purse every day.  It's just not called that.  It's an Olive Drab "Military Messenger Bag".

Still a purse.

Still keeps all the crap that I have to carry to and fro on a daily basis.

(Got stopped at the Mexican border for a search by the soldiers a few months ago.  They saw the bag and asked (all in Spanish) if I was in the army.  I said no.  They said why do I have a army bag.  I said that it was a purse.  For a man.  They nodded their heads, like it made perfect sense to them.)

The parents gave them names that wouldn't have to be changed in case they grew up to be trannies or people who want a terrible name.

and all three "adults" were smoking something really fun when agreeing on names and apparel for their offspring, i guess...
