Stossel told the hosts of Fox & Friends

Pick the dumbest one in the room. I dare you.

Stossel sold his brain on the black market.

Private military.  Yeah, great idea, we should really ramp that up.

No, John, your mustache doesn't count as an organ.

Iran is the only country where it's legal to sell your kidney?  I call BS.  I'm pretty sure you could do it in the Ruggen Individualist's Libertarian Paradise of Somalia.

I hate you for that visual.

HATE.

The best part would be hiring a different private police force than my neighbor and then calling in a property line dispute. Who needs "Call of Duty" on the Xbox?

2013-11-07 03:15:43 PM
So ... some functions that are currently handled by federal/state/local governments are going to be cheaper and better if we invite a whole bunch of middlemen to the party??

Really?

Mentat: Private military.  Yeah, great idea, we should really ramp that up.

it's not like that helped bring down the Roman empire or anything, right?

seriously though, the private industry as a whole is not inherently bad, but your mindset to make everything private is a terrible idea. It does nothing to help the public because they have no say in what they have to deal with.

Ford didn't win world war 2, they didn't push for civil rights, there are things we have to do as a country that the private industry won't do if we want to survive and progress as a nation.

This guy read "lord of the flies" and thought it was some kind of template for how the USA could be more awesome.

Sorry Stossel

Thats a tad bit to radical for American tastes

For the last time, John, "A Modest Proposal" was not an argument for privatizing human beings.

Here's what I think is Stossel's original article on this:   Link

It's one thing to be pro-privatization, but to go so far as to say privatize everything?

It's as dumb an idea/argument as saying "the government should run everything."

This

Extremists are extremists. Don't matter if they are left or right.

I already think too much of the military is privatized. And privatized libraries with minimum wage workers sounds like a miserable idea.

Sure, you could get a lot more than $1,200 selling your kidney in the US, as long as you can afford a lengthy hospital stay. To get the kidney out, they have to break several ribs to get it out intact. The recipient gets it implanted in the abdomen, and gets out of the hospital a heck of a lot quicker than the donor. So, long hospital stay + loss of income would mean quite a bit more than $1,200.

PRIVATIZE EVERYTHING. Everything should have a price. If it can't be sold, it can't have a value.

Votes, for example.

Market failure? No such thing!

Well, shiat, it did wonders for health insurance. Look how cheap and effective all those middlemen made our healthcare system

Sorry, should have seen this before.  But yeah, tremendously, ridiculously stupid idea.  The generals should always be under direct civilian control, or else you're gonna have trouble.

We should also privatize disaster relief for d-bags who keep rebuilding their homes at the shore

Having Stossel, Hasselbeck, Doocy and Kilmeade in the same room is going to result in a zero-division that will kill us all.

I could've missed something, but my mom received her second kidney about 4 years ago. The donor had the kidney removed with a Laparoscopic procedure and was out of the hospital in just a few days.

Stossel's ideas are still idiotic.

Actually, with the possible exception of "organ selling,' most of the services in TFH are on the table as far as governmentphobes are concerned.

In order for it to be "legal," you need a government to say it's legal. Somalia has no such thing - hence why it is a libertarian paradise.

I don't understand the fetish some people have with privatization.

When has privatization ever resulted in a better service/product and was more than just a slush fund for some politicians cronies?

Ramping up sir!

Armies and Police Are Being Privatized Around the World and Business Is Booming

Unsurprisingly, the U.S. is the world's biggest spender on private security, totaling $138 billion a year, thanks in large part to a spike in demand during the concurrent wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

According to the report, last year the Pentagon spent $44 billion on mercenaries in the two countries combined and in 2011 the U.S. spent $3 billion alone on a five-year deal for private protection for the U.S. embassy building in Baghdad.

But, as the American military presence diminishes, much of the outsourced security work is transitioning to police work, with protection of oil company assets abroad also on the rise.
