"Today's presentation really speaks to the leadership of our athletic department," said Kumea-Shorter Gooden

And for people with funny names.

vernonFL: I never knew that story.

I went to MD, never missed a home game, blah blah blah, and nobody had ever heard of that story before Deadspin exposed it last week as they were prepping for Syracuse. I shared it on Facebook -- to everyone's shock and awe that UMD was so crappy back then -- with a comment like, hey my grandfather was barely out of diapers when all this happened but it's still, somehow, embarassing. Better late than never.

A great athlete, college educated, a policeman, a soldier, a Tuskegee Airman, and buried at Arlington, this guy is everything Americans are supposed to be...except, you know, brown, so, this is what happens.

They need to apologize for those helmets. Or the state flag. Or both.

Huh, i grew up here in Syracuse and never heard this story before. Thank you, fark, for teaching me something about my hometown college athletics.

In the documentary that was running on HBO recently, Marty Glickman said it was the biggest regret of his life playing in that game and not apologizing for his actions to Sidat-Singh (who died before he could.)

Solid State Vittles: They need to apologize for those helmets. Or the state flag. Or both.

The State Flag is awesome....it's the actual coat of Arms of the Lords Baltimore (Calvert and Crossland) who founded the state (and had the only granted power from the crown to create heriditary titles of nobility in the New World) which may explain why the offical state sport is , I swear, Jousting

Yeah what Magorn said! Too many damn state flags are just blue, ours stands out. But yes the helmets were ugly, but hey free under armour stuff. Our state sport is jousting, but our state team sport is Lacrosse. So we are all dbags.

In his defense, there are probably SU fans who couldn't pick out Archbold from a set of classic football stadium pictures, let alone know anyone other than Ernie & Jim ever played for the team.  Not good fans, mind you, but fans nonetheless.

In his defense...how many SU Fans can pick 5 current players from a set of football pictures?

Lets go Orange...

//cant wait for ACC Basketball
//cant wait to beat Duke twice.

I am flying down tomorrow to attend the game wearing my trusty  #44.  My friend Randy wears #19 for Sidat-Singh and was the first person to tell me the story.

Should be interesting.

What good does it do to apologize for something you did not personally do?

okay, here goes.  II apologize to Jim McMahon for grabbing him after the whistle and slamming him into the ground.  I apologize to the students of columbine for shooting up their school.  I apologize to Lucifer for casting him out of heaven.

See? it does not mean anything if you are not the person who did it.  It just makes some intellectuals feel better about themselves.

I like how the next year they went on a romper stomper and beat Maryland 53-0.

1938...2013. What's the difference...10 points and another State.

Thanks ObamaO'Malley.
