I love that the NYC Mayor-elect is a Sawx fan. But even if he wasn't, I'd still like the guy. He's the anti-Bloomberg.

This shows how bad the GOP campaign was - mentioning that might have cost him a point or two!

Yes. He's also a raging asshole, so...

The point was, it's really nothing but an amusing factoid that shouldn't make a difference to voters.

To be fair- ALL Mets fans are Red Sox fans by October anyways. We have a mutual hatred of the Yankees and we both have long since buried the hatchet underneath Bill Buckner's legs of 1986 world series.

Anti Bloomberg? Bloomberg was a very very good mayor. Lets hope, for NYs sake, that deblasio is not the anti Bloomberg.

Interestingly, the worst thing he did during his mayoralty was suggest that Pedro Martinez should have been arrested for the zimmer melee.

The biggest issue wasn't even the NYC mayoral race. It was the ballot measure that less than 25% of NYers came out to vote on.

Thankfully, those that did vote made the right choices, for example, making sure that judges can't serve past 70 for 10 years until 80, stopping this mining company from continuing to drill in protected land and giving up other land to the State in lieu for ruining said protected land.

What's the status of the soda thing? Was the whole thing thrown out, or just part of it? Has this new mayor made any statement on whether he supports the soft drink ban or will overturn it?

Well, when the Yankees suck as they really do now might as well write them off for some time. I doubt nest season the Yanks can pull off a Worst to First like the Red Sox just did. Maybe Cashman can convince the Dodgers to accept a salary dump of players.

Considering the lack of publicly-available bathrooms in manhattan, drinking big sodas is a risky proposition, sugar or no

No, you've got it backwards.  It's inexplicable that a New York team would root against another New York team out of either some misguided sense of rivalry or just jealousy - New York is New York, as far as I'm concerned.

Well the Yankees can't pull off a Worst to First because Toronto finished in last place this year.  And if they really do suck so much right now, how did they have a winning record in 2013, and how come it wasn't until the last week of the season that they were eliminated from playoff contention, despite a year full of serious injuries to half their team?

But go ahead, keep farking that chicken. Moron.

I don't know about that.  There are a lot of people spread out this country who are from New York or who have family there.  Also, it's the largest city in the country and its politics sometimes make national news.  I don't believe it's dinner table conversation no, but the mayor of NYC is a more well-known job than say, the mayor of Huntsville, AL.

Got any legitimate citations for this? Maybe I've missed something and should be more critical of Bloomberg.

New York real estate is so horribly complex with myriad ridiculous rent control /rent subsidies/ tax abatements that I haven't tried to understand it.

Basically I tend to think that politicians have given huge giveaways to poorer people and rent control beneficiaries over time, and have had to pay off the real estate developers to compensate them for the giveaways with tax abatements, in the process farking over the middle class who don't realize that their taxes and rent would be lower if we just scrapped the whole subsidy/rent control/tax credit charade.

Atlantic Yards and all the Williamsburg waterfront development and the LIC condo developments are full of ridiculous cronyism, outright lies about how much was going to be "affordable housing", etc.  Real Estate developers in this city are farking crooks, and they have had ridiculously friendly administrations over the past couple regimes to do so.   The mrs. was an attorney involved in the Atlantic Yards debacle, fairly shady shiat going on there.  All Bloomberg's fault - no, but he has done fark all to reign it in and has made an atomsphere incredibly friendly towards them.

What do you mean "pay off the real estate developers", how do you propose - specifically - that rent control and tax credit/abatements (usually in older buildings) affect in any way, shape or form the sales cost of new developments in this city?     Yeah, the poor have it great in Manhattan.

/not that I fundamentally care, I don't involve myself in local politics and hell, I own property here so ridiculous price growth helps me.   I live in Park Slope like de Blasio too so at least I can be sure my neighborhood won't get farked with...

Yea, some activism in his 20s is totally the way to define him now. The only people I see calling him a communist are people like Glenn Beck, so I'm gonna go with [citation needed].

I knew someone would do that. I actually prefer saying soda because "pop" doesn't sound like a beverage, but given my location and the fact that if I say "soda" people "correct" me, and I'm not passionate about beverages I hardly drink, I decided to not fight that battle.

Not to thread-jack, but there was another edition of "Ask the Pink Hat" on this week. They interviewed some "fans" who were at the Red Sox parade over the weekend. Some of the highlights: a woman who said he favorite sport is "Sportsball" and another who said the Red Sox defeated the "Baltimore Marliners" in the World Series.
