Cash for Clunkers means Obamacare will never work.

And George gets paid to write this.

The GOP's buffet of bungling.
The Tea Party's repast of rape.
The Democrat's smorgasbord of slacking.
The Libertarian's banquet of buffoonery.

That kind of surprised me.  I figured it would be Jennifer Rubin or Charles Krauthammer.  No, it's George Will.

Oh well, same derp.

So a program that reduced CO2 emissions, was more effective than several other emissions bills, had a positive if minimal net effect on GDP, incented people to participate, passed with bipartisan support, and was instituted at a time when the US auto industry was collapsing...was a total failure?

Keep reaching for those straws, man.

If Obama is such a stupid person and a bad administrator....then how did he get the ACA past congress? How did he beat Romney?

In the same manner a staggering drunk occasionally successfully drives home without getting a DUI or killing anyone, of course.

I mentioned this in another thread, but Cash for Clunkers worked well for a previous employer of mine. Just because the South derped it up doesn't mean it was a failure. Life must feel terrible for all those people who are apparently being personally wronged by the president.

Hmm.

Everyone seems to have amnesia on how badly the economy was tanking.  Maybe cash for clunkers wasn't that successful but who the hell knows what could have happened without it.  How many people it helped that were just a penis hair away from losing their shiat.

He passed ACA by burning the Constitution and Romney was too much of a centrist.

/am I doing it right?

I think all the criticism of semi-imaginary bullshiat does more to drown itself out than anything. Just a thought.

The headline was actually Rove's strategy, only with lies and scandal instead of failures. Lie constantly, and the media won't bother to keep up. Romney borrowed the strategy, dubbed "blizzard of lies."

But if a more honest candidate lies once -- or says something that can be deliberately misinterpreted as something that isn't true, like "insurance companies won't drop plans" -- oh boy. Watch out.

Actually, George Will is one of the few remaining republicans who manages to be relatively level-headed about things. Say what you will, but it's sort of refreshing that now and again I can still read an opinion piece by a conservative that isn't graced with some stupid shiat like this:

Yea, right. That makes perfect sense. Because if there's one really powerful lobby in Washington with the money and time to push its agenda through, it's poor people.

NEW YORK - The Dow Jones industrial average is closing at another record high.

The Dow rose 128 points, or 0.8 percent, to 15,746, beating the record it set last Tuesday by 66 points.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose seven points, or 0.4 percent, to 1,770, just one point below its own all-time high.

Remind me how we judge success in this free-market nation, and how it sets us apart from Commies, you fiscal and social conservatives?

800 billion dollars was given to the f*cking banking industry. 800 billion. 3.5 billion was given to CFC. That's more than 225 times CFC. And no strings were attached to that handout. Emissions were not improved.

Now consider that even had every stock in america gone to 0.00 and every bank imploded (and with it every one of my own investments), half the country really wouldn't have lost sh*t because they don't own anything in the first place. Half the country would be like 'so the f*ck what I'm already broke'. Yeah yeah anarchy in the US. Whatever.

This attack is myopic and to tie this program to Obamacare is a terrible reach as the two industries are completely different and the bills were enacted for completely different reasons.

I would get it if you said you disagreed with Obama. That's fine. But calling him a failure when he can list a large number of success stories just makes you look like an idiot. Say what you will about the president...but he isn't stupid by any stretch. Dudes got game.

DarnoKonrad: Cash for clunkers was a moderate if short term success; so just resign already Obama.

The direct benefit to the big three was short term but when we look at auto sales trend graphs, the cash for clunkers spike is still visible.

The big benefit was to the dealerships who had gob of inventory that wasn't moving.  Cash for Clunkers allowed them to sell the cars on the lots and change non-liquid asset (unsold cars) into cash which they could use to pay down the loans, often from the auto company, they used to buy their inventory.  Without Cash for Clunkers the dealerships would have gone bankrupt leaving the auto companies holding a lot of additionion bad debt.

I think it's important we remember what a failure Obama is.  He is perhaps the biggest Failure of any president anywhere.  He has FAILED so hard that by comparison some of the worlds greatest FAILURES FAIL by comparison.

FAILYFAILYFAILITYFAILYFAIL

FAIL FAIL FAIL

FAIL

There.  Now it's true.

The idea was to get old, inefficient 10 mpg-type things off the road in favor of something with better gas mileage, and to give a temporary bump to the auto industry teetering on the brink of collapse so that they could get going again.  So a bunch of people traded in their older less efficient cars and the GDP got a temporary bump via the auto industry getting a temporary bump, which allowed them to recover and survive.  EPIC FAIL, OBAMA.

Not to mention the environmental disaster the Cash for Clunkers was (it squandered all the carbon investment already spent in producing the cars that were prematurely scrapped).. and how it hurt the poor by raising the cost of used car parts. (the cars were crushed instead of dismantled).

The road to ruin is always paved with the best intentions.
