Chinese Labor Camps are taking jobs away from hard working Americans.  We must rectify this "labor camp gap" immediately, if the USA is going to remain a global super power.  This sounds like a job for Joe Arpaio.

Doesn't that mean there are still 5 of these out there and they entitle you to a tour of the sweat shop with the possibility of inheriting it at the end?

The shiatty thing about all this is that these people could be paid fair wages and treated humanely, and the giant corporations and individuals that rely on this system could still make a substantial piece of pie.

The concept of endless and constantly increasing profit margins is a cancer.

FTA:

"We found no evidence that production was subcontracted to a labor camp during our investigation," it said, but added it no longer sources from this company.

Riiiiiiight.

Glad you're going under, Sears holdings.

Chinese Labor Camp Worker Sends Plea For Help Hidden In Cheap Halloween Decorations

OK, slightly less than a year. Still, way to keep up with current events, CNN.

Pretty good English handwriting for a labor camp worker.

Your iPhone was made in loving care by Chinese workers in forced labor camps.

American prisons outsource labor to corporations for pennies an hour.

How is this that different?

In fact the US is number one at 716 per 100,000 in the year 2012.  Mainland China is 121 per 100,000.

Not that I am here to defend China, but lets take a look at ourselves before those fingers point back in our own direction.

I got this same type of message in a fortune cookie once. I simply disregarded it and ordered more tea.

I wonder if Chinese prisoners count towards the world's 30 million slaves? Also, do they count the millions of US prisoners who work as telephone solicitors for Third World wages of pennies an hour.

The US has more prisoners than any developed country, and since the days of Jim Crow, most of them have been slaves in all but name.

Chain gang, they call it. It's still lamentably common, especially in the South and South West, and I suspect the "conservatives" are bringing back slavery and the Ante-Bellum South one pot smoker at a time.

I sometimes have good things to say about America and Americans, seeing as half the population are decent and sane, but let me say this:

Bugger You Amerika-ka-ka, you biatch! Now if we could only find the Good Twin, America the Beautiful. How sweet that would be!

did you read the article? People are sent to these gulags for "offenses" like dissenting, without even the formality of a trial. Inmates are tortured and forced to work long hours. Probably a lot worse than most U.S. prisons.

OK, don't screw with the Chinese government on specific issues. I don't claim to be a specialist on China, but I don't see the US as so full of freedom these days either.

Or are you telling me that the US with the number one ranking for prisoners in the world per 100,000 is is choke full of freedom.

Look on the bright side: huge profits accelerate research which will lead to a cure for cancer, and sooner. Unfortunately, that means and you'll live longer, demanding more money to survive into a longer retirement, sooooo.....it's back into the mine!!!!

They will delay a cure for cancer as long as they possibly can. There's more money to be made in treatment.

Tht's what I thought.

FTFA: The decorations came in a $29 "Totally Ghoul" toy set that Keith purchased in a local Kmart store in 2011. When she opened the package before Halloween last year, a letter fell out.

I guess they'll just run it every year, because, hey, fark China. No other country makes their prisoners work.

In late October, the autumn colors were fading fast in Masanjia Township as temperatures plunged to barely above freezing overnight. Driving towards town, the landscape was a mixture of barren farmland and mothballed factories with banners advertising cheap rent.

And now for the weather report...

Seriously, too many writers are pulling this when they want to write a serious story. Stop it. It's hack and it takes away at this point.

blacksharpiemarker: The shiatty thing about all this is that these people could be paid fair wages and treated humanely, and the giant corporations and individuals that rely on this system could still make a substantial piece of pie.

This has ZERO to do with business. The man is a member of Falun Gong. He's a political dissident and this is meant to punish him.

There are somewhere over 1.3 billion Chinese people. Do you know how many aren't sent to labor camps for dissenting against the government?

Somewhere over 1.3 billion.

2013-11-06 10:24:51 PM
Yeah, sure. So a few Chinese peasants are forced into slave labor to provide cheap consumer products to Americans. What I think you bleeding hearts are overlooking is the fact that if those products were produced here in the US by people being paid a living wage, those crappy plastic pumpkins would probably cost $35 instead of $29. Is that REALLY a world that you want to live in!? I think not!

I think CNN is falling for an urban legend. Wouldn't be the first time that's happened.

In a regressive taxation system like ours where profit-taking is highly incentivized over reinvestment, and where enormous wealth can be passed from generation to generation?  Not really.  We get Paris Hilton.

Conservatives have been attacking labor for forty years, and they're not even close to finishing. The political system is irrelevant; the economic result is germane.
