(Huffington Post)   Washington police revive violent prisoner after he collapses from food allergy... just kidding, they ignored his pleas for help and let him die. Oh, and he was only jailed for pot possession   (huffingtonpost.com) divider line 54

Well I feel safer.

2013-11-06 12:56:23 PM
So does that mean the family won't be fined for not cleaning the cell?

2013-11-06 12:56:34 PM
Why are we giving prisoners food .... ?

When did that start...

2013-11-06 12:57:09 PM
I realize prison is not customer service, but you'd think the fact that jail already had a body count of seven might make them a little more...vigilant.

2013-11-06 12:57:14 PM
On the plus side, one jail cell cot is no longer being needlessly occupied by a pothead.

2013-11-06 12:57:15 PM
Well if he didn't break the law he wouldn't have been in that position in the first place.

Wait, isn't cannabis legal in WA state?

2013-11-06 12:57:29 PM
There's probably like seventeen innocent young children still alive today because this young man was locked up and unable to infect anyone else with his rampant marijuana proselytizing.

2013-11-06 12:59:08 PM
Maybe, he shouldn't have been smoking pot; you dirty, dirty hippies.

Well, in his case, not yet.

But I wouldn't want to bother you with the words in the article, as you have already stressed no interest in them.

:)

The article notes that four months after he died, yes, it was legalized.

Food laced with deadly marijuana, no less.

O, Evildoers! If you cannot be nourished by a full helping of Justice(TM), then gag on the crumbs of our humanity.

Of course there's a coverup. The guards murdered a guy.

One less non-violent thoughtful person on the streets.

2013-11-06 01:06:13 PM
So . . . he wasn't faking, right?

/or else he's really good at it

I had no idea blowing off a court date was called "pot possession" these days.

2013-11-06 01:08:45 PM
YOU SEE!@! FINALLY PROOF THAT POT KILLS!!!

2013-11-06 01:08:57 PM
I jail/prison has a very simple job: keep a prisoner alive, and keep him/her from escaping.  That's it.

I don't care if he was in prison for jaywalking or cannibalizing babies -- either way, all they had to do was keep him alive and inside the walls.  How farking hard can that be?

2013-11-06 01:09:09 PM
I'm sure they will be charged for negligent homicide and brought to justice.

Fark cops right in the eye. They are unaccountable douchebags. This is why I don't give a flying fark when I hear about something bad happening to one of them and why I think the maudlin "hero" parades we have for them when they get hurt or killed are pretty nearly offensive at this point.

I'm trying so hard to care
I mean, it sems like a horrible thing I should care about and all...
but, nada

Maybe you should consider a job as a prison guard, sounds like you'd find yourself in good company.

guards, not cops.  Totally different class of animal.  If you're going to go off on this rant at least make it a correct rant.

No, that's because you are psychotic.

2013-11-06 01:32:05 PM
Oh certainly there will be charges made against the guards, but how much you want to bet no officer involved will ever be found guilty?

2013-11-06 01:33:31 PM
To be fair, he wasn't really in jail for pot.
He was in jail for jumping bail.
He was out on bond for pot....
... but the #1 most important condition of bond is that you show up for court.
He skipped out on court.
Hello.  Mc.Fly!  Hello!?!
That is a huge no-no and will get your bond revoked instantly.  Do not pass Go.  Do not collect $200.
That said, the cover-up at the jail is unforgivable.
I'm thinking someone could figure out at least one criminal charge to arrest the jailer on... obstruction? official oppression? anything... someone needs to be criminally liable for that behavior.
Also the county needs to a few million or so to the dead man's mom.

Jailer, guard, cop.  House rat, sewer rat.  In the end, they are still unaccountable douchebags, and deserving of spite.

I always shake my head at that these stories where the legal outcome seems pretty much a done deal. This family is getting damages on top of damages. There's farking video and a dead body and a slam dunk case of negligence. The only thing my lawyers would be doing were it my prison would be working out a settlement and trying to get the county to cover as much of said settlement as possible, considering they're next.

everytime i hear this, i kind of want some jackboots.  i don't really know what they are... some kind of reinforced boot, probably good for horseback riding.  they sound durable.

/ i think the issue is more that the job creates a certain degree of callousness, and there is not enough desire to vet those who apply or properly train those who work for correctional facilities.  of course, all that costs money.  so, yeah.  this will not be an easy problem to fix, especially in the absolute absence of political motivation.
// it's not an issue of fascism, just an issue of indifference to a potentially large budget item for a group that probably won't be voting anyways.  so, most accurately, it's an issue of democracy, and the consequences of barring entrance to the democratic process for a small, voiceless minority of the population.

Get over yourself. We suck off anyone in a uniform in this country and it's created a situation where they have no accountability. If the only comeuppance they can ever get is random, I'll take it.

So on the Fark outrage scale, drug war is worse than whiners with food allergies.  But what if the poor guy was also fat.  How would that change it?

I think he was a fat guy who would bring many toddlers to restaurants and doesn't tip, but he was also a divorced female who cheated on her husband and was granted alimony and custody.  And a devout Christian and Muslim who understands the stupidity of atheists.

well, all i want is to crush my enemies, see them driven before me, and hear the lamentations of their women...

since that's a quote from gengis khan, the jackboot seems fitting (through anachronistic), being originally (according to wikipedia) outfitted for mounted cavalry.

Was the guy really that hungry that he wasn't sure if the 'oatmeal' would kill him or not so he just went ahead and ate it anyway?  Think if I wasn't sure how lethal it was I'd wait for my bail to be posted and go eat at home.....just sayin

No, your lawyers would be drawing out the process for maximum billing.

no, the lawyers who took this case would have taken it as a contingency.  there's probably a good amount of money at stake, the tortfeasor can probably pay out, and the family probably doesn't have tens of thousands of dollars to fund the litigation.
