Well, what's she gonna do with all that junk? All that junk inside her trunk?

2013-11-06 12:51:13 PM
The Koch brothers don't care about abortions or women's reproductive rights. However it is a great wedge issue, and they can use this issue to develop and control religious nuts running for office.

This is like a side campaign. You get the nutjobs into office on abortion, then you hire a pure psychopath legislative leader to exchange abortion votes for environment votes, fracking votes, voter suppression votes, gun law votes (so you can create your own mercenaries to roam your fracking sites free of regulatory burden), and so on and so forth.

2013-11-06 01:14:24 PM
To be fair, in most of the states where these initiatives would take hold there's a good chance that your sister's junk is carrying your baby.

2013-11-06 01:15:41 PM
I'm a single-issue voter on abortion, but only because it makes it so damn easy to choose (ha! pun unintended, but I'll leave it). It also makes it easy to kill the BSAB debate, especially since without fail the ONLY people in my life who bring up BSAB are white men.

Out of my uterus, gorrammit!

/Rs ever actually drop their problem with minorities and women and I might consider voting for them. Until, I'll just keep being a D who votes against gun control

These wedge issues have a limited shelf life, especially once the Baby Boomers start dying off in earnest. The only question is how much damage the fundies and teabaggers do on their way out, and what corporate interests will do once that particular well starts to run dry.

Sure, tell me this *after* I've already climbed to the top of the water tower with a can of Krylon to refute the claim "Tea Nerves Loves it in the Pooper" with a declarative "No She Don't!"

They spend a lot of money on dumb stuff.

To be more specific, I can understand why they campaign against anyone who might regulate their polluting-ass industries. I can understand why they campaign against immigration reform. I can understand why they'd campaign against taxes. I can't understand what their problem with the ACA is, though, especially since they have enough cash that they could have carved out a nice little grift in the legislation when it was being written had they chosen to do so. And I damn sure don't understand why they give two rat f*cks about social issues.

2013-11-06 02:20:23 PM
But what about water, public safety, roads, viniculture, and medicine?

2013-11-06 02:20:55 PM
My conservative friends would have me believe that the Koch brothers are intelligent, principled libertarians.  Then stuff like this pops up.

Corporations and the wealthy, while powerful, are numerically small. They need bodies to win elections. To get that, they need people who can be easily manipulated into voting against their own interests. These people tend to be superstitious and bigoted. TA DA.

Because those issues keep large numbers of people in the Republican fold.

They know they have a limited amount of time before those issues cease to be a rallying cry, so they, and their ilk, are making huge pushes to cement as much control as they can before the tide changes.  You'll see them continue to push in local and state elections, especially of the judicial sort, and continue to stoke the flames of socially contentious issues.

Throughout our history, the pendulum swings, establishing a balance between progress and stability.  In the interest of modern capitalism that is centered on short term gains, daily changes, and the constant exchange of capital, the greatest fear of the truly wealthy is anything that even minutely hurts market competitiveness, or stems the flow of a single copper into their pockets.  They spend millions to protect billions.

It also doesn't hurt that they are heavily involved in petroleum (and other commodities).  Of course they want people popping out babies in a heavily unregulated environment.  Plastics, electronics, healthcare products, transportation, everything depends on petroleum, and the Kochs are sitting on barrels and barrels.  What is better in a consumer based economy than consumers?

What am I saying?  Sorry, got carried away.  It's all about freedom.

It causes mostly eye rolling, if you guys want to know.  The problem is that, while you may attempt to co-opt it, the execution tends to fall pretty flat, if not used inappropriately.  It's like someone calling you a blow job, most of the time.

You mean women who were raped? Incest?  Women who develop medical conditions during pregnancy? Women with no means of financial support?  Women who just got pregnant and now don't want to be pregnant for whatever f*cking reason they feel like?

Some of these reasons may be "committing murder" according to you, some may not.

What do you propose be the criminal penalty for these women committing "murder"?

Preach on, brother.  It's in the Bible, number one priority.  The first commandment says "Thou Shalt Not Kill Babies".  You'd think these ivory tower libtards would know that kind of thing, if they ever read the Bible--oh that's right, they don't because they're atheists!  ZING!

As far as the right wing in this country is concerned, once a woman is pregnant (and it doesn't matter if it was forcibly done), they become nothing more than a mobile womb.  Is it any wonder why they're going out of their way to bring women back to the status of chattel?

This is rich dudes pouring millions into an effort to cause social changed depriving women of something they have had access to, and the supreme court has stated they have a right to. I don't care about the source either way, it's just that it conflicts with "we read them". Clearly people don't, hell most people barely read the fark headline.

Yes, but when the arguments are the same tired thing they've been saying for awhile now, re-reading them isn't necessary.

For example, I read all the Benghazi stuff when it first happened. The story hasn't changed. So I don't need to click an NRO article to know it's gonna be derp-tastic.
