So let me get this straight... the only time I log in is when I want to search for breaking news, which is probably at least once a month, I've never tweeted anything, I have no followers and I'm following nobody.... this makes me an "active user"?

Yeaaaa... Okay.

In related news, your typical Farker now has an "active sex life" because he manages to stay sober enough every couple of days to rub one out.

I think Twitter is above and beyond the greatest thing that's ever happened to breaking news.

It's the only reason I want to buy into this IPO. Once more and more people figure out that there are advantages to this thing, it's user-base should increase before it decreases.

It's like Facebook. Eventually, pretty much everyone you know will be on it. And who is Twitter's competition?

/Doesn't matter if you tweet

I don't know even one single actual human being who uses Twitter. To put that in perspective, I do know at least a couple people who still regularly update their Myspace pages and a couple dozen people who maintain their own Tumblrs.

Active use is a fact comprised of two metrics,  activity and time.  If the measure of activity is "logged in" and the measure of time is "over one calendar month" then yes, you are an active user.  Twitter can define "activity" any way they like.

/ Negotiated way too many of these farking contracts...

I'm still on the fence on TWTR.  I can certainly see it continuing to grow, I'm just not convinced it can make money.

We'll see, it's going public tomorrow at $26 a share

If rubbing one out every couple of days is the minimum requirement to a sex life, then I have a harem.

TFA: Either way, if you're not tweeting you're not active in the generally accepted meaning of the word, you're really not.

This is simply not true.  If you check twitter every day but rarely or never tweet, you are active.  Lurkers are people too.
