His mom is still alive???

Reed left his West 11th Street Manhattan penthouse, his $1.5million home in East Hampton, New York and the bulk of his estate including clothing, art, boats and touring company Sister Ray Enterprises to his wife.

These places are exactly like where you are right now.  Only much, much nicer.

Misleading headline.  He only had 2 dwellings.  They happened to be a Manhattan Penthouse and a $1,500,000 place in East Hampton, but I was expecting a home on most continents.

So, Sweet Jane got zilch. Figures.

"It all stays in the family," said the rocker's attorney, James Purdy.

So, like the Walton family and Wal-Mart.

How is it misleading?  Subby says "go on, you want to know how many houses he owned" and you went on and found out.

You'll never find another house like mine.

It implies an interesting answer. Lou Reed owning a reasonable number of houses is not interesting. It's like asking "find out what Lou Reed uses to brush his teeth." When it turns out to be a toothbrush it's kind of a letdown.

You would think he could have left something for Sugar Plum Fairy, all he wants out of life is Soul Food and a place to eat.

Oh, yeah, the lumberjack song.

Hmm. Guess I read it differently. I assumed Lou lived pretty modestly and the article confirmed it.

Yes, one of the first signs of liver failure is it clouds your judgement.

John McCain can't stand talking to his mother. He never forgave her for having that affair with president Taft.

Rich guys always buy boats. Beats me, too. I've got a friend who runs a marina at Wrightsville Beach NC - one of his duties is to go around the moorings twice a year to scrape the moss and other growth off the waterlines of boats that haven't been moved in years. The owners come down occasionally, sit on the fantail and have a few drinks, then leave. On top of what they paid for the boat, they are paying dockage fees which are calculated on the length of the boat, but usually run in the $500 a month range. If the boat has to be moved to a secure anchorage for a hurricane, that can cost $2k or thereabouts.

If I had that kind of money, I'd probably buy a set of 16-year-old twins and not a boat, but everyone has their priorities.

I thought the headline was a take on his song "My House", but maybe I was just overthinking it.

Any self respecting true artist with integrity lets the label suits and the bean counters keep all the money off their sold work.

Well, he always did want to sail the darkened seas on a great big clipper ship, going from this land here to that in a sailor's suit and cap.

Meant to chime in earlier on one of the Lou Reed threads but never got around to it.

'All the politicians makin' crazy sounds'.

Some things never change. No, I take that back. They get f*cking worse.
