A nice touch: Amnesty for Canada after the Celine Dion episode.

We need not an agenda, for our faith shall guide us.

Bush has just lost my vote. No patriot act for me, thank you. Or theocracy.

2004-01-20 11:00:45 PM
This was ok, but I am very bummed that the Onion became not funny, about a year or 18 months or so ago. Much less subtle and clever humor, and more obvious kneeslappers. Weak.

2004-01-20 11:01:13 PM
What's important was to close the speech with the most important issue of our times: Steroids.

What a joke he is. Does anyone take this buffoon seriously? Other than the dead Americans in Iraq, I mean.

BTW: Times he said the word "deficit": Zero.

2004-01-20 11:01:50 PM
To busy calculating how much it cost to buy a yale degree to watch the State of the Union.

2004-01-20 11:01:52 PM
It had to be the onion. Oh well.

2004-01-20 11:02:19 PM
Oh, this link goes to the Onion. And here I make a serious comment. Well, a gripe really. Nevermind...

2004-01-20 11:02:40 PM
Tax money to muslim organizations; what could possibly go wrong there?

2004-01-20 11:02:50 PM
Wrong color tie. :)

Tried the drinking game posted earlier this week, but gave up after 10 min. Can't pour drinks fast enough.

2004-01-20 11:03:28 PM
It was pretty funny when he started to complain about the PATRIOT Act expiring, and some of the people in the audience clapped.

Their days are numbered now, of course.

2004-01-20 11:03:29 PM
President Bush did just fine, thank you.

2004-01-20 11:03:43 PM
The Onion rocks on the mock mic right, all ya haterz needs ta be capped with da 9mm. G.

2004-01-20 11:03:46 PM
Nothing like timely satire, even if it had nothing to do with the actual address.

2004-01-20 11:04:03 PM
BTW: Times he said the word "deficit": Zero.

Wrong.

2004-01-20 11:04:04 PM
Terror. Terror. Terror. who gives a rats azz? What about us upper-middle-class folks?

2004-01-20 11:04:24 PM
Whoa...that was the Onion? For satire they pretty much hit the nail on the head, except for a few obvious jokes.

2004-01-20 11:04:31 PM
Gawd, the onion is so funny!

/oh wait, it's not 1999 anymore!

2004-01-20 11:04:38 PM

Dammit! He forgot to mention the programs in progress for legalizing pot and the plans for the construction of Greenhouse habitats to grow it on Mars and the Moon.

Emmmmmmmmm. Marsajuana.

No war in space! Let the U.N. handle it!

2004-01-20 11:05:18 PM
BTW: Times he said the word "deficit": Zero.

I only caught the last half an I heard it once.

2004-01-20 11:05:42 PM
I didn't watch the whole thing, but it seemed to me like he proposed a lot of good programs, he just didn't say how we are going to afford them, since we are already running a deficit. Also, I hated how he ended his speach with come heavenly father crap. I'm a Christian, but seperation of church and state is one of the most important of our ideals. Though I think it is fine that he funds "faith based" service groups, as long as he funds all service groups. Just because you are affiliated with some church doesn't mean you shouldn't be able to help rehabilitate prisoners or whatever. Anybody who wants to help with that shiat can, and should be supported, as far as I'm concerned.

2004-01-20 11:05:54 PM
Raiders of the Fark: Ill give him some credit. He did say deficit once. How it would be cut in half in the next five years. Also, I thought that one of the senetors was sleeping. Does anyone else know what i'm talking about?

2004-01-20 11:06:34 PM
Interesting read. Although since I like to get my politics from a variety of sources, I'll hold my opinions until I hear Jon Stewart's take.

2004-01-20 11:07:14 PM
Deep Hurting-I thought the same thing. The expiration of the Patriot Act got quite a bit of applause (from myself included.) Then he inevitably followed it up with a plea to renew it. *gag*

And abstinence-only education? That leads to two things...lots and lots of babies and the clap.

2004-01-20 11:07:21 PM
Can't we just cut and paste the SOTU thread to here?

2004-01-20 11:07:31 PM
I didn't watch the show. Was it funny?

2004-01-20 11:08:46 PM
Not a single mension of Osama, and only 2 or 3 to Al Quaida.
My state and city piss on him. He supposedly kept his promises, but he omitted the fact that Osama is still out there.

2004-01-20 11:09:44 PM
doccm9: Thats Democracy at work

2004-01-20 11:10:49 PM
I didn't pay too much attention until he branished a broadswoard and yelled "Ride now! Ride now! Ride for ruin and the world's ending!"

Theodon, he ain't

2004-01-20 11:11:14 PM
Nice touch. I love the one about no uranium.

I didn't hear the speech, but I listened to NPR on the way home. Does anybody buy the bullshiat about the economy getting better? Here are some points I heard, plus my crafty rhetoric:

1. Productivity is up
(because millions lost their jobs, leaving the remaining employees to fill the gap = better productivity.
2. Home building is at the fastest pace in 20 years
(because interest rates are down)
3. Home ownership is at an all time high.
(again, interest rates)
4. Interest rates are down
(because Greenspan repeatedly cut the rate to correct for Bush's asshat economic plan)
5. infaltion is down.
(the economy is at a standstill at the consumer end)
5. Industry had the fastest quarter of growth in the last 20 years
(too bad the workers are having the worst quarter in 20 years, Bush's industry friends are rolling in it though)
6. created over 200,000 new jobs in 2003
(lost 3.2 million since 2000)
We need to impeach this moron and his staff too.

My rum wash gone after teh tird "nukyouler"

For whatever reason, agree or disagree, his approval rating (56%) is the highest for ANY president at this stage of his term (i.e. with an election around the corner) since Eisenhower. The GOP will bring back terror concerns to a fever pitch by November, playing to his biggest strength. This election will be ugly -- a Bush landslide.

I am not necessarily happy about this, but it's reality, folks.

2004-01-20 11:12:16 PM
danoaks15, the last time they at least joined in the standing ovation. This time Teddy's face said it all.
Unfortunately, Nancy and Tom gave the democrat end a very creepy vibe.

2004-01-20 11:12:21 PM
Pity the unenthusiastic token soldiers. One black, one woman, one white guy, all barely clapping. Hope they enjoy their tour in Alaska.

2004-01-20 11:13:43 PM
worst parts all had to do with faith references, abstinence, and anti-gay sentiment. get a farking clue, Bush.

2004-01-20 11:15:58 PM
I was having sex during the address. I think getting fukced in person beats getting fukced by Bush on national television. ABB.

2004-01-20 11:16:30 PM
I wonder if the giant Pro-Steroid lobby uses paypal.

2004-01-20 11:16:40 PM
"My state and city piss on him. He supposedly kept his promises, but he omitted the fact that Osama is still out there."

Slobo still has not been convicted and it has been how many years? Contrary to the leftie belief that one man alone is the boogie man. There are a lot of little boogiemen under them doing the actual work.

But to add to your so called accusation, add all the time that he was at large when Clinton was President. Since that is when he first started attacking us and nobody went after him.

das

Anyone catch the irony of the Dennis Miller ad????

Bush/Cheney'04

2004-01-20 11:17:31 PM
Man, this sucks. I feel compelled to drive this man out of office, but I really want to vote Libertarian. If I go with my feeling, I am a trator to my beliefs. If I go with my beliefs, I know that I have somehow helped keep this guy in power for four more years.

2004-01-20 11:17:43 PM
BTW: Times he said the word "deficit": Zero.

Wrong.

Yeah, the deficit will be cut in half in the next 5 years with the approval of his budget (which caused the deficit over the past 3, but who likes numbers anyway)

2004-01-20 11:17:44 PM
Wow. I'm very happy I didn't watch. Now I don't have to get on some message board and biatch about what an ashat he is...wait...
