The people's vote is meaningless, it's the electoral college votes that matter and they do not have to go with the popular vote. That recent movie (5 years ago maybe) about the fate of the election falling on the shoulders of one disgruntled voter is along the same incorrect thought process

Virginia has an electoral college?

It would be nice if voting mattered, but in a Republic,,,

A better illusion of choice would also be nice.

Well actually, the people who COUNT the votes. Just ask Uncle Joe.

Subby is oversimplifying it.  The AP is correct and makes a valid point, one NPR even mentioned more than once

The Virginia race has been very nasty and voters are getting turned off by both sides. Unfortunately, if it keeps them from the polls....

"The race is going to be decided by the few Virginians who choose to vote. The state Board of Elections chief says turnout could be as low as 30 percent of registered voters and the campaigns see 40 percent turnout as the goal.
"If mainstream Virginians from both parties don't turn out to vote," McAuliffe said Sunday, "you're letting the tea party decide Virginia's future."

Fano: Well actually, the people who COUNT the votes. Just ask Uncle Joe.

This.

But that's not what this article is saying. With the poor turnout in every election these days, the results are not necessarily reflective of the population at large.

School budget votes are the ultimate. Most people around here don't bother. So who votes? Teachers, their families and parents of kids in school. Ie people who directly benefit and therefore more likely to say yes. So the school admins can go around saying that the majority of people support the funding levels or perhaps want even more funding. In fact, the majority didn't actually vote. All the dissenters stayed home because there is barely a nickle's worth of difference between the full and contingency budgets - you're paying for it either way.

Props to the author for mentioning Libertarian candidate Sarvis at all, who has been polling above ten percent.

Wow.  Someone is paying attention.

Just gave my ballot to the mailman a couple hours ago!

I hope the voters in this state say no to prop 517, a law by and for one person so he can make more money filing more voter initiatives making more stupid laws that benefit him!

Prop 522 is just bad law, poorly worded and totally unnecessary, just buy foods that are labeled "NO GMO s"!

That thought would never have occurred to me drunk. Thank you, AP, for thinking about me.

Gee that was only confirmed by the 51 percent who failed to vote during the last election.  Oddly enough confirmed by CNN, msbnc, abc, cbs, and I think Obama commented on it later. I could be wrong.

Is that a lot different than IRL, a disgruntled judge in Florida decided who was President and who got the Nobel?
