Yes, everyone please focus on the electronic CIGARETTE that caused this fire!!!11!!1!one!11!

....because its totally different from any other rechargable battery that got over charged using cheap chinese hardware.  Definitely not like an exploding cell phone or laptop battery.

...in which case regular cigarettes are safer.  If both start a fire, both are equally safe/unsafe, and a best-of-five Rock-Paper-Scissors round will be used to break the tie.

scottydoesntknow: Yes, because cigarettes never cause house fires...

Oops!  This has been covered, and a bit more succinctly, to boot.

It overcharged, overheated and exploded, sending parts flying on to the furniture.

Same thing can happen to any electronic device that uses a small lithium battery.

I've had a few people ask me about mine.  It's taken some getting used to, but I like it.  I like even more that I don't smell like a farkin ashtray anymore too.  I'll trade looking like a tard to total strangers for that no problem.

With the exception of Blu and a few other brands, not big tobacco. Big tobacco is pretty late getting into the ecig game.

All of my hardware comes from smaller companies, and it was a one time expense in any case.

The two brands of juices that I vape are both produced locally; one a few hours away in a nearby town, and the other by a local store, on site.

Any brand recommendations?  I've been trying to talk myself into giving them a try, but I hear All Kinds of different things.  Mainly don't get the cheap pos ones from the 7-11 or wherever, which, fair enough, but which ones, then?

I've been using the Appollo version and have been pleased so far. Produced the heaviest vapor for me which actually feels like smoke going in

I've been using the eGo C-Twist... been awesome ... tanks get a little leaky sometimes but meh.. Its still awesome. eGo seems to be a pretty major and respectable brand

Brand recommendations?  Yeah, originals not knockoffs...which from the video it appears there are quite a few different brands on the table.

A couple of knockoffs I recognize.  These do not mix and match well.

Use genuine gear, with a lipo sack and you will have no issues.

Come to valleyvapor.com.  I don't buy the knockoffs from spam email ads.  I have one supplier, and they are very reliable.  I'll even knock 10% off with coupon code FARK

I have been not smoked for a year and a half or so thanks to ecigs after a 15 year pack a day habit.  My mother is two weeks in after 40 years so I think you should be good.  So far as kit goes dont get the 7-11 type.  There should be a local e-cig store around and they should get you sorted out for about $50.  eGo makes a nice starter brand.  Sure you can spend more and get into mods and better accessories but if you just want to quit this should work fine.  Much in the same way you dont need to be big into cars to go to work.  These guys are in Orlando which apparently is near you.   I dont know them and cant vouch for their work but the gear looks solid.  I would also suggest get a few flavors and try them out to see which you like best.

This is why you must never use an ecig charger which mAh rating is greater than the battery.

I use the Kangertech Protank mini. Does pretty well by my book. If you want a nice cloud of "smoke" go for a larger battery (variable voltage). I used to smoke a pack and a half a day for about 25 years. Been using this stuff for about 4 months and I find I rarely want a smoke. Except at a bar... that's gonna happen.

The good news is that I can now smoke in my own home without feeling like a schmuck.

I can't wait to get that wicked pipe mod I saw. It looks sweet! And yes, you will look a bit like a dumbass at first. You will get the hang of it. But for the love of baby jebus, DO NOT use the lanyard.

There's a fairly predictable path most people follow when they start using e-cigs.

First, they pick up something like a Blu or other device that looks like a cigarette.  These 'cig-a-likes' are what you're seeing at gas stations and liquor stores, and this is what the big tobacco companies are investing in.  Some are disposable, but some have replaceable cartridges that have various flavors in them, and are rechargeable.  The rechargeable devices have a little chip in them that regulates charging so they don't get overcharged.

The second step for most vapers is to move up to a more powerful, larger battery like the ego, and get away from the replaceable cartomizers and start using a refillable tank of some sort.  Some of these batteries can be adjusted to produce higher or lower voltage, such as the ego c-twist or the Vision Spinner.  They are no longer the size of a cigarette - now they're more like the size of two chapsticks laid end to end.  Because they have a more powerful battery they produce more vapor (and stay charged much longer), which helps keep users vaping instead of regressing to cigarettes. I don't know about the Vision, but the ego batteries don't have anything to regulate the charge - they are supposed to be used with a special charger that has the chip in it.  All of these batteries come from China, and there are a lot of knock-offs on the market.   The problem comes in when stores sell these batteries with the little usb chargers that come with the cig-a-likes.  The cheap chargers don't prevent overcharging and are not supposed to be used with the bigger batteries that don't have overcharging protection built in.

The next, and dorkiest, step comes when people move past the ego-class batteries and get something like the Provari, Joyetech evic, or similar device that uses an even bigger, stronger battery and allows more control over voltage and wattage.  And they're bigger devices, more like a small flashlight. There is also a trend toward rebuilding the atomizer (the thing that turns the juice into vapor), which is basically just resistant wire and silica wick material.  These users sometimes get into really low-resistance atomizers with the goal of producing enormous clouds of vapor.  Anyway, these have removable batteries that can be charged in a charger built for the purpose, or the device usually has a connection to permit charging and a protection chip built in.

I passed on the LT 2.0 because it was essentially the same thing as the original, but with pulse-width modulation capability (pulse firing can extend atty life). The new 2.5 finally added the watt option and it was absolutely worth the price. Finest ecig IMO; beats the hell out of the Provari's price tag for the same features and durability.

Also, be sure to get the the Protank II; the first gens had some issues and non-removable drip tips.

Until you let the LR atomizer get too dry, and then it fries itself. I don't know about now, since I have moved on to tanks, but they used to be around $10 each for the LRs.

I forgot who, but somebody makes (made?) some custom LRs, that had very, very, tight tolerances.

I started out with a couple of eGo twist batteries and Kanger T2's

I have an Innokin iTaste VV v3 and a Kanger Protank II mini for e-juice. The iTaste v3 is awesome. It's variable voltage, lasts for days, and I can charge my cell with it. The best part is that it's fairly small, I don't like carrying around a battery the size of a mag light. I also have a Vhit type-B atomizer and a glass globe atomizer with a ceramic nail that I use for concentrates. Both of those melt my mind.

Vape Dude's has incredible e-juice. Try the Blue Honey.

Also be aware that if you order batteries from Fasttech, delivery may take over a month as extra scrutiny is being placed on battery shipments from China.

There have been incidents of explosions of batteries and they usually have a couple of the following factors:

Homemade or physically altered battery in an effort to get more power
In a place that is obviously too hot...like a car
Cheap Chinese
overloaded outlet

BTW, I had a good friend who fell asleep with a lit cig and died in the resulting fire.

Agree with most everyone's recommendations here: Volcano and Joytech are very fine battery manufacturers, never tried Innokin's iTaste series, but have heard great things. For atomisors, Kanger is the big name these days. What really makes Kanger shine is that most of their new products have universal, replaceable heads that can be either rebuild or purchased very cheap in packs. If you want a good starting vape, get an eGo and atty heads with resistance between 1.8-2.2 ohms.

FuzedBox: Also, be sure to get the the Protank II; the first gens had some issues and non-removable drip tips.

Hmmm, I have both the Protank I and the Protank II.

Never had a problem with the v1 - one piece, but very solid. Both my v1's have undergone multiple drops on various surfaces and came out just fine.

My v2 I did have a problem with - when I pulled it out of the box and filled it, it immediately leaked like a sieve; the whole tank drained in less than 5 minutes. After disassembling it, I found that the edge of the glass tank had chipped, and small bits of glass were embedded in the rubber rim, creating an imperfect seal with the caps. Luckily, the place I bought from shipped me a replacement glass immediately because it was a manufacturing defect.

So not a large issue, but v2 does seen lest robust to me in retrospect. There is, at the least, a larger chance of you chipping or damaging the glass itself when disassembling and cleaning it. The replaceable tip is quite nice.

Oh, and since we're sharing pics of our mods...

snocone: Am I late?
Did anybody mention you should always use a battery charge bag?
Well?

Nope, you're the first, and that's damn good advice.

Look, the fact is, an E-Cigarette is still a CIGARETTE!  Cigarettes are responsible for many house fires and deaths!
