As a Cards fan though, I have to tip my cap here.  Classy move by the Red Six here.  :)

Chicago did that after the Stanley Cup final this past June.

THAT is the gentlemanly good sportsmanship that's missing in a lot of professional leagues!

NHL Hockey players - stop beating the sh*t out each other for a few minutes and take notice.

Wow, that was cool. And the PD needs all the ad revenue they can get these days.

I want to know what Bill Burr thinks of this.

/I love Bill Burr, but he ranted against the Hawks when they did the same thing in a Boston paper. I actually thought it was funny, as a Hawks fan.

Nice move by the Red Sox.

See, world? You don't have to be an asshole in victory or in defeat. The Cardinals lost 2 of 3 home games in the Series and the fans managed to not make dicks of themselves to the Boston fans. Boston deservedly won the Series and chose to be decent and magnanimous to their opponents.

See the Rev's post.
I would say NHL, for all the fights, is a classier then most would assume.

Ahh...the old 'Boston Reacharound'

What a bunch of douchebags. It's not enough to win, they have to rub the Cardinals' noses in it. They waited until just enough time passed by and then hit them with this little reminder of who won. And a full page ad to boot... what better way to say "We have tons of money and a huge payroll and you don't." What a bunch of classless farks.

N.Y. Yankees $233,464,061 -$3,062,616 $230,401,445
Los Angeles Dodgers 220,395,195 -5,564,286 214,830,909
Philadelphia 170,760,689 -10,774,975 159,985,714
Boston 150,655,500 6,939,286 157,594,786
Detroit 148,414,500 2,057,344 150,471,844
Los Angeles Angels 127,896,250 14,000,000 141,896,250

Yeah, fourth and 11th highest out of 30. Huge disparity there.

I must have missed the ad taken out in the LA Times by the Cardinals following the NLCS.

It's better than the ad that was their next choice:

Over a third higher.

Eh, what can you get for $42M these days anyway?

The amusing thing is the Yankees spent DOUBLE what the Cardinals did. And got rather less.

While it's true that you can't win without spending money, once you get into the $100-140m range you rapidly stop getting much more for your money. Usually when you sign guys into massive contracts for long periods they're already in decline. Just ask the Angels how Pujols did. You can't win without spending some money, but spending a fark ton of it won't necessarily buy you wins.

Blackhawks did the same after winning the Stanley Cup. It's cool that Boston returned the favor. :-)

First part: I couldn't agree more.

Second part: Have you watched hockey? It is the most in-your-face sport out there. Best friends off of the ice turn into fighting machines when they get that much contact. You see it happen in backlot football games when two buddies have even 1% the contact hockey players reach before the gloves come off. It's the nature of the beast.

Sorry, fights in hockey don't equate.

This.  Would have loved to see the Cards win, but have absolutely nothing against the Sox for having done so instead.

/now for the Cardinals to get a short stop that can field and hit
//and a centerfielder

Full page ads are so cliche. Save yourself 20%, get 3/4 of a page, and get the same number of eyeballs. What a bunch of dummies.

Let's be honest here: Dusty was your manager back then.  They weren't as close as you think.

\though I still remember that MLB12 ad and thinking how incredible will feel for you guys when it happens

akula: Just ask the Angels how Pujols did.

Had a decent first year, but once he got hurt, whined like a 2-year old with colic about being DH'd; his wife is a batshiat crazy Xtian who goes on Spanish-language radio and unleashes batshiat crazy rants about this and that; spent 2013 collecting a paycheck.

The Cardinals and their fans must LOL every time they see him striking out on SportsCenter.

You can't win without spending some money, but spending a fark ton of it won't necessarily buy you wins.

See: total bust Josh Hamilton. Total salary for the two for 2013: $31 million. 2014: $38. And those salaries keeping increasing. Yikes.

The strange thing about her is all the years he was with the Cardinals you never really heard from her.  If you did, it was just something to do with charity or the Pujols Family Foundation.  You got the impression she was just a normal gal living the life.

Then the negotiations with the Cardinals went south and he signed with the Angels she came out of nowhere just going farking nuts on call in talk radio in St.Louis.  Accusing the Cardinal management of lying, disrespecting him with the contract offers they are said to have made, etc etc.

Yeah, right up until the negotiations tanked, the Pujolses were the very image of good generous people. Sure, he thought a lot of himself, but they did a LOT for developmentally disabled kids (they still do). Regarding his wife, he started a restaurant she could run (not sure if it's still around), but nothing much else.

And then they decided they were slighted by not being offered a long contract with massive money. All of a sudden they went a bit nuts.

Meh, would've been classier if they didn't start it off by jerking themselves off one last time with the the "From one great baseball city to another..."

There were stories earlier that provided a glimpse

I remember one re: his wife not allowing him to ride in elevators with women in fear of their wiles or claiming rape ????
