Thanks

So, whoever clicked on the Breitbart link, are they overjoyed that Spongebob refused to stay unemployed and suck off the gubmint teat, or outraged at the depiction of Mr Krabs as a blood-sucking capitalist willing to fire his best, most dedicated and enthusiastic employee just to save a nickle?

Or both?

Nobody's looking to set up shot in Sarah Palin's Bikini Bottom these days.

And we all just gloss over the fact that Spongebob is unemployed because of corporate greed and not because of anything he's done. The social safety net was created expressly for the purpose of helping people like him.

/The "job creator" could save a nickel by firing him and profits trump everything.

Spongebob was featured in a video played in schools promoting tolerance.  He didn't single out gay people as the exception to being tolerant (in fact, homosexuality wasn't mentioned at all).  Apparently, since he didn't say it was OK to be intolerant to gay people, he was "promoting the gay agenda"

They do know that the creators of the show are liberal right?

They had a whole episode dedicated to the environmental movement.

2013-11-05 11:03:06 AM
Cartoons have long espoused conservative values.  Who can forget the dashing and straight Fred saving doped up hippies Scooby and Shag?  Or what about the proud Americans of GI Joe fighting noted feminazi, The Baroness?

From Inspector Gadgets repeated outwitting of cat owner and obvious homosexual, Dr. Claw to Mr. T's All-American Gymnastics Team defeating troublemakers with patriotism and clean-living, American cartoons have always been about the triumph of conservatives over libs.

As I recall, Spongebob came along right after all the good shows like Angry Beavers and Ren & Stimpy bailed on Nickelodeon due to them being demanding, micromanaging shiatbags (side note: the unanimated Angry Beavers series finale where they trash the network is great).

I think Spongebob just happened to come along when good shows weren't yet avoiding the network like the plague and with a team of people willing to cave to every unreasonable network demand.  Nick'll keep Spongebob on until Tom Kenny dies, simply because they have no better options.

</uninformed opinion>

Anyway, I always saw Spongebob as a parody of how the system shiats in the mouth of 99% of bootstrappy, self-reliant go-getters.  Is Corpsebart really holding up a minimum-wage fast food worker universally hated by his community as the modern-day John Galt?

I hope not.

Spongebob is an environmentalist which doesn't mesh with Fox's view of raping the Earth of all of its resources with no consequence.

This is why I have long believed that Bug Bunny sawing Florida off was disrepectful to Rick Scott and the Tea Party movement in particular.  It's not Rick Scott's fault he works instead of lounging around eating carrots, libs!

gee, if I were a kid watching Sponge Bob, which of those scenarios would I want to watch?

My favorite part is that his saved nickel then becomes the rest of society paying MORE to make up for what saved him that nickel.

Looks like the people over at Breitbart where too busy jerking off about Spongbob refusal of unemployment to dwell on the fact that greedy rich business owner Mr. Krabs fired Spongebob in order to save nickle.

Are you farking kidding me.

CSB: My oldest son got banned from Spongebob at age 5 for drawing butts on the back of his homework during school. It's all he would talk about. I'm not usually big on censorship, but he sure the hell cleaned up his act after that.

I've since lifted the ban, but funny enough, at 10, he thinks the show is stupid now. He and his 6 year old brother watch Johnny Test and Phineas and Ferb now.

The first one. "EVEN SPONGEBOB KNOWS WELFARE IS BAD AHAHA WHARGARBBL COMMUNISM" is about how to sum it up. I didn't brave the comments though.

Of course, they're conveniently ignoring all those other times that Spongebob was the "WORST LIBRUHL LIE EVIL CARTOON OMG HOMOGHEYS!"

I'm getting really tired of this shiat. It's one thing for some idiot blog to fabricate some connection between a brain cell-killing cartoon and social policy

What pisses me off is that these kind of dumb-as-shiat connections are peppered throughout the entire farking political process. I'm tired of seeing it come out of the mouths of our lawmakers. These are people I expect to be educated, able to construct an intelligent thought, and make convincing arguments based on logic and reason.

At the moment, all I can think about are the handful of congress assholes that made my brain spasm in agony as they stumbled through a pointless Wizard of Oz reference in order to tell Kathleen Sebelius that she "wasn't in Kansas anymore." What the EFF does that even mean? Then the Queen of Metaphor Fail completely ignores the point of the hearing and biatches incoherently about not being given a choice to buy a Ford.

Can we stop making bonehead connections and start thinking like intelligent, educated thinkers? What the iddly eff does Spongebob *really* say about the unemployment situation in this country? Here's a hint: NOT A GODDAMN THING.

TL;DR - If you can't come up with a reference or metaphor to illustrate an issue, SHUT THE FARK UP and let those who are smarter than you handle it.

Don't they realize that Spong Bob is a parody of what they view as a "good worker"? See thats what you lose when you only watch a show once in awhile because your kids will freak out if you turn on FB before it's over. Context.

johnnieconnie: Here's the story for those of us who refuse to click Breitbart: Link

Thanks for the link. Oddly, the cartoon seems to nail my view point on unemployment. Are there some shirkers out there? Sure. Most people want a job, though. A lot of us need a job, and not just for the money. Some of us feel a sense of self-worth when we earn our way. Most of us, really. We spend most of our time feeling misplaced envy for the guy without a job, but, really, we should feel sorry for him. He doesn't have the same self-respect or self-worth that most of us have. (And, honestly, some people really do not belong in a workplace. Their very presence makes the workplace worse for everyone, including customers.)

Sponge Bob doesn't want to do away with the social safety net (he notes that it works for Patrick). Big business laying off workers to save a nickel doesn't come off well either. He's just pointing out that the myth that everyone would gladly lie around doing nothing, living high off of $300 a week is just that - a myth.
