Got a boost from an opponent and his teammate, which, yep, will get your neck above the rim. Cool stuff, though.

csb  Every now and again we used to play hoops at an elementary school where they had 9' rims.  It was fun to actually be able to get slama-lama dunks and play above the rim.

/well is was cool to me

Done that too. It was fun.

My csb is that my basketball mentor (I was 12 when he introduced me to basketball) was 6'6" and had pretty good hops for a white dude. What I'm saying is that his head would come 4 or 5 inches from hitting a 10-foot basket. He was first team all-CIF in 1978.

Anyway, my friends and I went to our middle school one Saturday afternoon to play on the 9 foot rims (they might have been even lower actually) and there were adults playing 5 on 5 on one of the courts.... and he was one of the players. Imagine a 6'6" ex Div I player, with good hops, playing on sub 9 foot rims.

I was just telling my nephew that the powers-that-be need to either lower the rim to 8-feet, or raise them to 15-feet. Either everybody can dunk, or no one can.

That was pretty nifty, subby. Here's arguable the greatest in game dunk, ever.

it's good but my favorite (which is never ranked as #1 in dunk lists) is this one.  and i havent seen any recent lists but i imagine blake griffin has 2 or 3 on each one nowadays.

Jordan's dunk vs Ewing is pretty nice. Tom Chambers' dunk is up there as well.

I guess Knicks players are dunk baits.

yeah, i was always peeved that lists would follow Starks dunk with Jordan's over Ewing.  I think it got more play when they said he dunked on Jordan.  I never thought Starks posterized him but it always felt like they had to 'repair' whatever slight His Airness got out of that.  I always hated Jordan just for the media cocksucking they constantly gave him for 20 years.

And Chambers dunk is still crazy air when i see his head above the rim.  But this JuCo dunk vid is seriously impressive.

I like where this thread is going.  I'll link two

1. A history of NBA Posterizations
2. A more recent NBA entry (since so many great ones are the previous generations)

I remember one time Greg Kite came to my basketball camp and threw one down. Man, we were all star-struck that day. We knew we'd seen greatness.

Still don't get the "posterizing" fetish with basketball fans. Usually the defender getting plowed is not the one that screwed up, but another guy who had his shiat under control and just got there in time to put up a last-ditch defense.

Because it is fun and there really isnt anything to "get?"

You havn't lived til you've seen Bird throw one down.

But seriously, I'd rather watch someone juke a defender and drain a long 3 than watch a dunk.

Tom Chamber is unique because he managed to fulfil the secret desire of every white man in the world: to viciously dunk over a tall athletic black man.

I think 1. (2007) has to be edited since then for Blake Griffin.  He deserves his own list like this.  His in-game dunks are just so dominating.  But the classics will always be classics and as good as he is they wont top my personal favorite from Starks.  I watched that game (and the horrible results of that series afterward) and it will stick in my mind longer than any other dunk I witnessed watching games live.  Dominique and Chocolate Thunder are my next 2 favorites from childhood.  That dunk special really had some awesome gems in there.

Except there is something to 'get'. As a player on any level you 'get' the perception that playing defense is secondary to 'not being posterized'. Appearance undermines gameplay and you end up with 'sports entertainment' instead of competition.

It is cool looking and exciting. You are one of these guys that thinks they dont play defense in the NBA, arent you?
