That's a tough call to make.  It could go either way.  There's less rape in this one though.

Truthfully the quality of the show is proportionate to what you were expecting.  Considering the source material, it was miles ahead of the original show.  Problem is standards are way higher nowadays, and I don't care how much you polish an old turd, it's still a turd.  I give them credit for making it as good as it was, but that cartoon should've deployed a scorched earth policy.  NOTHING from the old one should've been retained for it to see even a sliver of success.

It was a valiant attempt, but the moment I know they kept these horrific abominations...

That's probably wise. In any case, they addressed the "wait, aren't they aliens" bit, so it's not really fair to call them on that. Basically they hand-waved it by saying that the narrative is that they're basically cat people, so why not have some fun with it.

I have to say, my opinion was totally different. I liked the Thundercats reboot a great deal. I thought they did an incredible job burning the old show down to the floorboards and building it back up in a more interesting fashion.

For God's sake, they turned the Thundercats into a fascist regime and then wiped them out in the pilot through wholesale genocide. They expanded on the sword of omen concept in an incredibly smart way, introduced more species and had realistic conflicts between them, they gave the core team realistic interpersonal dynamics and they made Mumm-Ra into a total badass.

And the first time you hear the "Thunder.... Thunder..." it gives you goosebumps.

Not to mention they had Jaga voiced by Saruman in the pilot and Lion-O's father is voiced by the original Lion-O.

They should have let it find its feet. They're too quick to kill shows these days.

p.s. Oh, I forgot! It also finally established that Thundercats, Silverhawks and those shark guys are all part of the same universe!

That's not setting the bar very high. The original was entertaining but pretty devoid of any kind of real substance with a few exceptions. The newer version, while better than the original, still wasn't very good. They tried to do too much too fast with the storyline IMO.

2013-11-04 08:37:41 PM
As I thought... this cartoon is not scientifically accurate at all.

Cats have long term memory, and even when hit with aging, tend to have "longer" short-term memory than dogs (16 hours for cats vs 5 hours for dogs). I cannot find any reference to cats being "coprophilic" - nor have I ever seen any evidence of this, where dogs most certainly are, both by reputation and by my own observances. The animal most fitting the descriptions given in this bit would be a goldfish.

Maybe it should be "Scientifically accurate Thundergoldfish"

I'm right there with you bro. I *wanted* to hate Young Justice. I never cared for the kid teams. Never even liked Teen Titans in any iteration. But damn if YT didn't completely win me over. And Aqualad? Awesome to the Nth degree.

What a farking waste. Killed to make room for yet another Batman show (which was crap and is now on the verge of cancellation). Just like Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, which was replaced by a vastly inferior show.

I agree with this.  I also liked young justice.  Maybe I am crazy but it seems as though CN makes good shows but then doesn't know how to market them to get an audience to sustain the shows.

The thing about Cartoon Network* is that ALL they care about are young viewers.  If kids aren't watching, it gets cancelled -- regardless of how well the show may be doing with other age demographics.

* with the exception of Adult Swim

/so, why not just move shows with older-skewing viewers -- like Thundercats or Sym-Bionic Titan -- to the AS block, rather than cancel them...?

Weirdly enough, they did exactly that with both shows.  Unfortunately it was their way of filling time with dead shows once they cancelled the two anyway.  So they took your advice... after the fact.
