Good that he got that one in early. I mean, it's best to blame the messenger for spotting when folks appropriate stuff as their own. Takes care of all those pesky questions about "responsibility" or "intellectual integrity" and goes straight for the emotional catharsis. It's more economical that way, and it lets our Beamish Boy just dispose of his undies and move on from the get go, as opposed to having to work up to that point...

If your first statement were true, wouldn't conservative politicians and pundits all be chomping at the bit to debate her on air? It would be like shooting fish in a barrel for them.

About #2, I've heard her give credit to Fark.com a couple times, so plagiarism from blogs seems like it would be kind of out of character.

Not to mention, her kooky liberalness: "I'm undoubtedly a liberal, which means that I'm in almost total agreement with the Eisenhower-era Republican party platform." But, hey, that's just from the Valley Advocate, who interviewed her as a "local girl makes good." Mind you, she didn't actually attend Smith, or the Seven Sisters, she just had to limp on by with Stanford and Oxford. Notoriously easy schools to get into. I mean, it's not like the rigorous scholarship that we seem to expect from candidates for public office, and she certainly has attended far fewer schools than say, Sarah Palin. I mean, WTF? Finishing degree programs at the SAME school? Surely, she must be moronic...

I mean, going from Dave in the Morning to MSNBC, that shows her lack of drive and determination, doesn't it? Really?

Paul IS a Senator now. Let's not rule anything out, since he is still fairly new to the position, and only still becoming acclimated to their ways and practices with interns...

"Good writers borrow from other writers. Great writers steal from them outright." - Sam Seaborn

That line from The West Wing, written by Aaron Sorkin, was paraphrased from T.S. Eliot, who wrote, "Immature poets imitate; mature poets steal."

I'm just saying. I'm pretty drunk ...

fark me, is plagiarizing going to become one of those words like "context" and "nuance" that will be grabbed on by right-wingers and used in the completely shallow, facile, wrong way, showing an utter lack of understanding of anything beyond "MAGIC WORD WIN ARGUMENT?"

Why is it acceptable to say "I wish we had these old Southern rules where I could shoot this person to farking death" but if he was more direct and, frankly, manly about it and said "She said that about me? I'LL KICK HER ASS!" it's not right?

It just seems very weird to say "I want to protect my honor my farking killing you" but not "I want to protect my pride by beating you."

2013-11-03 10:32:39 PM

bigpeeler: I'm with you, Paul.

Considering the number of Chickenhawks who keep running for office, it would certainly make things far more interesting for politics if our Representatives and Senators might run the risk of getting shot by constituents in a fair fight...

Paul also might want to amend his statement to dueling with swords, where he might have a better advantage, as opposed to the force equalizer of a pistol. Just a thought...

hubiestubert: Beamish Boy

Hey, you plagiarized that from Lewis Carrol's "Jabberwocky" Now you can never call out anyone ever again for plagiarism, no matter how flagrant. Now, let me show you some of this awesome new poem I've been working on:

Tyger Tyger, burning bright,
In the forests of the night;
What immortal hand or eye,
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?

no
but "footnotes" will become to "speeches" as "arugula" is to "salad"

something suspicious, scorned and the mark of elitist liberals

That's Doctor Rachel Maddow. She's also a Rhodes scholar.

I didn't know he was talking about dueling Maddow, just the unnamed haters he mentioned. It was a "WTF" but everything else seemed reasonably forgettable, especially to be coming from the mouth of a modern-day republican.

2013-11-04 12:47:22 AM
I really don't understand why he is being such a shiatheel about this?  All he had to do was blame it on a staffer and issue a one line apology and it would have been over.  But no, he just had to derple down.

Is he THAT pissed at Maddow for the way he handled himself on her show a few years ago?  Is there any other explanation?

Rand Paul is a pussy.

He got all scared and thinks he has to go grab a gun to defend his big manly self from a few words from a girl.

Why, on day 1, didn't he say "Opps! Damn intern!".

BAM! Story gone. This bizarre argument - the lifting chucks of text word-for-word isn't actually plagiarism, it's "failing to footnote" and the even weirder "But I never claimed to have written Gattaca!" has now made this into a rolling snowballs that will never go away.

I'd rather he followed in the footsteps of Alexander Hamilton. Any person Paul kills has pretty good odds of being more valuable to society than him.

Newsflash: Rand Paul threatens reporter with death or injury from his gun that he keeps in his sock.
Cops ignore the whole thing and continue buying military grade equipment that Rand helps to get for them.

/Nobody can like own words man....
//Oh but you can own them when placed in a sentence in certain combinations.
