For 7-11, the day Tyson graced their shelves was the most important day of their lives. But for me, it was Tuesday.

Fail?

To paraphrase PT Barnum, "A fat-ass American drooling at the possibility of a boneless chicken nugget with dippin' sauce is born every minute."

Eh, not so strange, Brother Fried Chicken is surprisingly good for gas station chicken.

Problem is I don't think of chicken when I think Tyson, I think of mutant chicken-like birds.

Quik-Trips in the Wichita area are starting to build stores with outdoor picnic tables, so many people go there to eat over lunch on weekdays. They're basically deli's.

Then you've obviously never been to PA and experienced this:

(They started off as a regular mini-mart chain with a freshly sliced deli and meat counter. They no longer have freshly sliced deli meats, but they do have all sorts of snacks and sandwiches made to order. Not the best food, but a better choice than McDonald's or Subway. I wish the local stores would provide tables.)

This is what happens to Americans who don't have a Trader Joe's to make them lunch. They have to go to 7-11 and have Tyson's make them lunch.

Japanese 7-11s had fried chicken available, surprisingly tasty.

The margins have been squeezed out of gas with the recent price hikes so they have to sell other stuff to stay open, especially in areas where the grocery and big box stores are selling gas.

Better than a Subway?  McDonald's doesn't set a high bar, but either the subways in your area suck or they've got surprisingly high standards.  I might have to consider taking a look at more gas station convenience stores if the prices are competitive.

MBZ321: ^That's a Wawa,

Sheetz is pretty awesome in that area too, the setup is pretty similar to Wawa.  And down in Maryland, Royal Farms has pretty good chicken.

Nothing pisses me off more than going to 7-11 to pick up my Slurpee and getting behind someone who wants a hotdog or whatevet those tubes of "food" are spinning on the rollers are.  For some reason it take the cashier 5 minute figure out which tube of meat the customer wants.  The only thing worse if getting behind someone buying scratch off lottery tickets.  There are like 20 different lottery games under the glass and the old bat will be there for 15 miutes saying, "I'll take three of thoses and two of these.  Oh, how do you play the one with the playing cards on it?"

How is 7-11 the only mini-mart that can't figure out how to make the hot dogs self serve?

Yeah, I came in to say something similar.  Lots of people (and the kind of people who are easily parted from their money) go to convenience stores for food. What's wrong with a company adding another revenue stream?

Tyson chicken itself may not be so great, but this isn't a bad business move.

This is Philly...hoagie capital of the world. I can't even believe Subway stays in business around here with all the hoagie/steak sandwich restaurants plus the plethora of mom and pop Italian pizza/sandwich shops that put Subway to shame. Subway is aikn to McDonald's in this area anyway.

In other words they suck.  I'm not going to say that they're the greatest subshop, even for the national chains, but at least in my area they're a good cut above the McDonald's.

Of course, I tend to hit up Subways when I speficially don't want the loads of fat present in most steak sandwich places.  My closest subway from work is in a food court right next to a Charlies.  If  I want grease I go there.  ;)

That might be how they're surviving:  While you and many others like the grease of steak sandwich places, there's also a substantive amount that don't like them, want different meats, cold sandwiches, etc...
