i used to poo-poo TJ Maxx until i realized that their kitchen section often had good deals on high-end stuff like all-clad, emile henry, staub, le creuset, etc.

I love TJ Maxx.

Disappointingly the massacre did not take place on Black Friday.

I've got some great food and clothing deals at TJ Maxx.

Looking forward to haunted TJ Maxx news stories in the near future, with surveillance video of stuff falling off of shelves in the middle of the night, etc.

I do not remember this one. At all... 2008... I think more people were focused on the elections and it slipped my radar.

Personally like TJMaxx. Got receiving blankie for 1st gt-nephew on sale there, also numerous other items actually retained, as well as presents for too many to count.  Don't live in Chi either ...

What's more likely is that this is just another example of the mainstream media turning a blind eye to when fat women are killed. I'm not surprised that this happened in 2008. George W Bush hates fat people. It's possible this whole thing was orchestrated by a the Bush Administration in an attempt to slowly rid the US of Layne Bryant department stores. The obesity pandemic is out of control people.

I think there was a viral video of the police using dynamite to remove the bodies. I might be thinking of a different story.

Mmkay ...

I love purses and shoes from TJ Maxx.  Sweaters aren't too bad, either.  Clothes for the larger ladies, though, don't stay on the racks, though, because the demand's huge.

/I see what I did there

Wait, how the fark does a mass murder go unsolved? What is this, Grand Theft Auto? Someone just went into the store, started killing people until he racked up a three star wanted level, made an escape, and hid from cops until his wanted level goes away?

"Doreen Thompson, a spokeswoman for T.J. Maxx's parent company, TJX Cos., said the retailer wasn't aware of the killings when it chose the location."

Do you really want to go on record as saying your corporation doesn't even do a cursory google search of addresses/neighborhoods you're planning to move in to? Really?

You're supposed to throw the "hard work" notion in there somewhere.  And "taking care of oneself" - don't forget that.

To be fair, commercial property is more about location than "what happened in the building". I seriously doubt that most major chains have a "murder(s)" search of store locations before they move to buy.

2013-11-03 01:35:20 PM
I don't understand the article's comments. Yes, people died there. So the entire site should be torn down?

At some point sentiment has to give way to practical considerations. If we tore down every building someone dies in, humans would have considerably more of a grotesquely-oversized ecological footprint than we already do.

Assuming Cormee isn't from the Dublin that's 30 miles east of San Francisco, I guess some litigious entity in Ireland already owned the trademark on "TJ".

TJX is the parent company. They also own HomeGoods, Marshalls, HomeSense, MaxxMaxx and probably some other things.

Well the best place to pick up women is near a Jenny Craig or Weight Watchers, they are now skinny but still have fat girl self esteem issues, and if they ever start trying to get some self esteem on you just make a comment that they look like they are putting some weight back on.

here's the Fark thread:

Five shot in Lane Bryant store outside Chicago; four dead, shooter at large Feb 2 2008

yes, it did receive national and international attention.

and here's a little piece that was done for the 5-year anniversary:

Link

this happened right off of an expressway interchange. of course, the suspect could be living in town, but the easy access to the expressway allows for quick and easy fleeing, the Illinois/Indiana border is about 15 miles east:

farm6.staticflickr.com

x marks the spot, s marks the Subway I had lunch at yesterday.

my brother lives about 2 miles west of there, I was on my way out to visit him that day at about 3pm, the increase in helicopter traffic was, to me, the most noticeable thing at that interchange (from about 0 normally, to about 5 or 6 that day).

it's tragic and horrendous, and, back to TJ Maxx... EVERY STORE IN THAT SHOPPING CENTER IS AWARE OF THIS!!!
