This is exactly like the movie Independence Day. Barges are appearing in mysterious locations, and once the clock hits zero, the headquarters of Apple, Amazon, Facebook, Microsoft, Yahoo, and Ebay will be wiped out. Someone call Randy Quaid and have him ready to talk about being probed.

The fantasies are fun but it's probably just cubicles for their workers. Call it the Hive or something.

Phishing boats. Nothing to see here.

2013-11-03 08:55:32 AM
We're fine as long as they're spread out.  Once they assemble in one location, they'll all snap together like Voltron and form a giant search engine that will rampage through San Diego.

I know a guy working on them. They are nuclear powered too.

We should probably check for Chinese sex slaves.

Those are the best.

Obviously these are apocalypse survival barges. All the rich people will jump on them and live at sea when the shart goes down. We all know that zombies can't swim and alien dissolve in contact with water. Wake up Sheeple, wake up!

that actually makes a disturbing amount of sense

They're the new "Google Glass-bottomed Barges". Offshore datastorage and indexing facicilities which are not subject to US laws, so the NSA can freely peruse your browsing habits.

Either that, or the foundational infrastructure for "GoogleCloud". Same end result.

The weirdest thing is that I can't imagine Google wanting to keep these barges for any kind of long term purpose, so it's sorta not their style.

BAL0100 is in New London, CT.

Makes sense, they do build ships there...

this was my first thought when this whole story broke. that, and i'm sure it's some way to convince you that whatever you were told you had to have last month is now sh*t. and now this is what you must buy.

That sign is laying on the ground upside down - right ways up it would read 1100 NELAB.  The photographer/writer really didn't catch that???  That is some pathetically awful journalism.

Also, I don't see bigwigs and rich people and people with sticks up their asses climbing up those "grandiose" stairs.  They would want elevators.

These are probably doomsday pods for google executives, and possibly our gov't bigwigs, since it keeps coming out that they are working directly with and being totally complicit with the NSA

Oh well, the more I look at it, it's not upside down either. Maybe just a fabrication error - that NE IS backwards, but the rest of it is right side up.

Just bizarre.

Am still apt to believe its something being built only for the priviledged.

2013-11-03 10:40:59 AM
I realize the source is The Mail Online, but I highly doubt the Coast Guard has signed non disclosure agreements.  If you are building a sea-going vessel, the Coast Guard is going to inspect it regardless of your anal retentive desire for non-disclosure agreements.

And building all this could still be cheaper than renting office space in San Francisco!

If I see one more stupid article on these stupid farking barges I am going to puke.  They media are probably being paid by google to run all these stories trying to get all the idiots of the world hyped up about the arrival of the "next big thing."  I don't give a crap about it, don't plan to buy it and don't care to see yet another damn article about some shipping boxes.

I guess so, but the B and the zeros are not boxy.  Crummy design aesthetic then.

Maybe I'll just go back to bed.
