It's been really hard for me to get excited about football this season considering how high the butcher's bill seems to be every week, even without considering the fact that every game is as inherently damaging to the linemen as it is.

I believe another Geno is still a free agent and is eager to be put in ...

Tebow wouldn't sign with the Jets. He's holding out for someone that is a Superb Owl contender.

So Brian Cushing, Sam Bradford, Reggie Wayne, and now Geno Atkins. Anyone else out for the season with a knee ligament tear?

I'm not sure how good Tim Tebow would be at defensive end, subby.

well guys used to injure knees all the time on the crappy natural fields, so they introduced cleats... well then they finally improved the fields so much that cleats aren't really necessary, but guys keep wearing them because it gives you a clear advantage in your footwork

thing is, all that stress has got to go somewhere... so it goes to the knees

either guys need to remove their cleats and get used to not being able to plant your foot and change direction like a sports car, or they need to start wearing knee braces

Leon Hall and his Achilles injury: "Hai guys what's going on in this thread?"

So... Geno, Leon out... Whitworth the LT was out this past game too. It's gut-up or shut-up time for the Stripes, and at least they have a long week to rest before facing the Ravens. I think they can win the division but it won't be pretty. Late bye week is huge.

/Stillers still suck.

Players wanted less practice.  So they don't keep in shape during the offseason...and while muscles can still be built back up, the tendons suffer.  John Clayton has a great article on this on ESPN.com.

Basically it's a combination of Goodell taking away head hits, so players are hitting lower...and players not understanding how to stay in shape now that they have their precious time off from 2-a-days.

And, in torn knee replacement news, jay ratliff just agreed to a one year deal with chicago, taking the spot of melton.

Dammit.

Hopefully he has something left in the gas tank and plays at a pro-bowl level and not at a falling-off-the-face-of-the-planet-like-Julius-Peppers level

Well if you can't hit a defenseless player up high near his head, then they go low at the legs instead, so we save the player from a concussion but end his season or career with torn ACLs.

Oh subby, I see what you did there.  Me and several hundred other people.

The football fan in me agrees with you.

The cheesehead in me is NOT happy about who he signed on to do it with!

Or...you can hit them in the middle so you can get arms around the ball carrier and probably a shoulder in so you can get the ball loose. You know, like how you're SUPPOSED TO DO IT.

But yeah, this concussion emphasis needs to stop. Can't play lip service to player safety by adding more games and narrowing targets for the dim minded linebackers and DBs.
