Hollywood is truly out of ideas

2013-11-01 12:24:00 PM
Fark, that show is so bad that I didn't even give a shiat how you met that biatch after the second season.

2013-11-01 12:24:47 PM
Will the mother be a less neurotic, less cowardly asshat, more likeable version of Ted? I mean, she'd almost have to be, but I mean on purpose by the writers.

2013-11-01 12:24:59 PM
Nobody is clamoring for this.

2013-11-01 12:29:04 PM
That sounds terrible and this article is terribly written.

There is also little information about the murmurs of a Dexter spin-off after it ends it's 8 season life span
I guess we'll find out when that happens...

Sadly, it is NOT to be about Barney and his tight hold on New York's grip of young, ample chested bimbos of the greater New York area
New York is probably only gripping bimbos of the greater New York area, but I doubt Barney Stenson is so limited.

Cool? I say this as a fan of the show: no thank you.

2013-11-01 12:34:30 PM
I like the cast and characters of that show, except for Ted.  I can't watch it.. because of Ted.

2013-11-01 12:35:32 PM
So now the girl is going to tell her kids about every guy she screwed and never heard from again while she was single in New York?

Looking forward to watching this spiral into the trees immediately after takeoff.

FTA: Added to the list of hopeful shows, is the idea from co-creators and executive producers Carter Bays, Craig Thomas and Emily Spivey, is the pitch for a How I Met Your Mother spin-off.

It's still a long way off.  And hopefully wiser minds will prevail.

My wife has been on board since the beginning (she was a huge Friends fan, go figure) and as such I'll "watch" an episode while on the computer and she's on the couch, so I've seen most of the show.

We, and everyone else I've spoken with, agrees that this is by far and away the worst season, undoubtedly because it was tacked on last minute. I've kinda committed to watching it through, but dear god they're making it as difficult as possible to keep me interested.

Actually, we've seen her in three episodes so far, and I like her a lot better than I like Ted right now. Ted of the first few seasons was great. Ted of the last few seasons has been awful with very few exceptions.

A series starring the Mother, played very well so far by Cristin Milioti, might be watchable. However, I feel this would be less of a Frasier-caliber spin-off and more of an AfterMASH or Joey caliber.

Considering the dynamics of relationships today, figured they go with "How I met your new hotter, younger mom."

That's a cool idea for one episode...oh, oh that's bad

2013-11-01 12:42:07 PM
Kind of like the show, but I remember a moment in the first season or two where I had paused the show for a moment for some reason and got distracted for a few minutes.  I went back to it and started it up again. Having been distracted for a bit, my mind put in place what was going on in the episode.  It hit me that every single main character at that particular point in the show was behaving like a colossal asshole.

Still watch the show, but I rarely find the characters sympathetic.

I really wanted to like it (mostly because if Segel and Hannigan) but I couldn't get into it. Particularly NPH who recited his lines like, well, a guy reciting lines. Ambulatory wackiness rather than a character.

Still better than BBT.

Will it star "Joey" from Friends?

2013-11-01 12:58:49 PM
This should be Mother's series finale instead of a new series. It opens up with the mother starting the story, explains in 2 minutes how she met the father and the other 20 minutes are credits or a dog jumping around.

When the creators initially said they were going to frame it around the wedding weekend, I'm sure I said this was the worst idea ever. Then they went to the San Diego Comicon and said they were going to jump around in time with lots of flashbacks and flashforwards plus trying to fully integrate the Mother into the cast, and I jumped on board with the idea. And then they stopped including the mother in the show after the first two episodes of the season. I can safely identify at least two episodes where a flashforward to include her in the narrative would have made them far better. So far, I think they've dropped the ball big time. Some of it could be because they tacked it on, but I think a lot of it is a lack of imagination in bringing the Mother into the story like they did in the second episode.

A version of this show centered around a female character, no thank you.

Dear god no.

I'm in a death match with this show. I've watched this long, I have to finish, dammit. It went from one of the funniest to just plain awful.

My husband refers to it as "that show you hate."

I did this with The Tudors too.

2013-11-01 01:11:48 PM
If it were centered around a floozy single mother who slept with 5 or 6 years' worth of men and chased them all down to figure out who teh father was...well I think Barney did a March Madness style episode where he tried to figure out somethiong about one girl out of 64.  So there's one episode.
What about a team of women with high powered sniper rifles who all work undercover to try and assassinate Ted?

Just stop watching when it becomes unwatchable.  I did this for about five seasons with 24.  I only know how the first season ended.
With HIMYM, In my mind, Bob Saget actually is the father and Ted actually is the mother, and in the last episode they will actually meet.  The 2 kids on the couch were kidnapped and have been threatened so they have to listen to Saget's stupid-ass stories every week.

Yup.  My husband has commented that he's slogging through this season just to see it through.

In the first twenty pages alone, I counted three flashbacks, one flash forward, and on page eighteen I think they have a flash sideways....

They shoot it without an audience, then show the final cut to an audience and add in their laugh track.

I think it started to go downhill when Sarah chalke left Ted at the alter. Some episodes have been funny, some unwatchable. I wish the 9 seasons were condensed into 5.

No.

I think you're on to something. People will buy all 9 season DVD sets, but watch a total of 5 seasons' worth of episodes in Machete Order.

How I Met Your Father? Where we also meet Barney's long lost, given away at birth, twin brother, who is the Barney of teh gheys? NPR going full fabulous?

Oh boy! I can't wait ...

I enjoy the show. Seen every episode. It's not great or anything, but the acting is still better than SHIELD.

My biggest issue is that thanks to things like Netflix and Hulu I can watch 5-6 episodes at a time and it becomes painfully obvious how formulaic most shows are.

Makes me miss West Wing...

2013-11-01 01:46:35 PM
er, "NPH", of course, not NPR

/dunno if that was autocorrect or brainfart

2013-11-01 01:50:27 PM
It really went downhill when Marshal and Lily got pregnant, and their entire role on the show was to take part in the hackneyed TV pregnancy/baby plots that every show does. "Oh no! My wife is having cravings! Oh ho ho ho! How forgiving of her hormonal mood swings we must be! Oh no! Maybe I don't want to give up my life to raise this kid, but it turns out I decide it's totally worth it! Look how we can't ever get sleep and are tired all the time! Ha ha ha!"

The show used to be pretty subversive of TV forumulae, but it's just started to copy them at this point.

2013-11-01 01:52:23 PM
HIMYM was an interesting idea and started off as a decent enough show, kinda like a "Friends" for the aughts. That was almost 200 episodes ago. Time to put it to sleep.

I'm waiting for the rise of Cardinal Bergoglio: "How I Met Your Holy Father".

I still like it, but they've painted themselves into a corner in a similar way that The Simpsons has - once you start driving the plot by upping the ante on how extreme the versions of the characters are of themselves you have nowhere to go but to take them all the way into caricatures of who they started out as.

The odd quirks are now defining character traits, events that would have been crazy in the first seasons are now par for the course, and everyone's on a runaway train just trying to keep it on the rails until it hits the destination.  There's really no more room for growth, just in-jokes, more extreme examples of pre-established qualities, and lampshades on previous events.

What's making it still work is the chemistry of the cast, the talent of the actors, and the writers that are still managing to throw in a few great gags per episode.
