They don't remember that they won?  Or are we talking about the time before the last time?

Since when has a peace treaty that doesn't get you anything near what you were actually hoping for counted as winning?

The Soviets wanted ALL of finland. What they got were a few small slivers and then, only because there were much bigger issues at hand that force a very short peace.

Not to mention 30+ years of reparations in the form of Finnish industrial output.
And no, the Soviets didn't want Finland, they wanted a front as far away as they could from their major population and industrial centres (admittedly this didn't go quite as well as they'd hoped). They also wanted somewhere else to send thousands of people to die to fend off a future of dealing with an overblown population. As was the Soviet way in their conflicts.
The Finns fought well, but without German assistance they would have fallen.

What German assistance? At the time of the Winter War, Germany and the USSR were buddies - the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact was still in effect. The Germans weren't fighting a proxy war with the USSR through the Finns - they were blockading them and keeping out the Brits and French who wanted to help the Finns.

Now, after Hitler conquered Norway and Denmark, that changed. The Finns and the Swedes were cut off at the top of the war, with no access to anybody except the Russians who'd just got done invading them and the Germans who'd blockaded them. The Finns had to get materiel and supplies from one of them, and when Hitler started making plans against Russia, he decided to let the Finns buy from them. So, the Continuation War was launched as an opportunity for the Finns to reclaim the territory that the USSR had taken in the Winter War, and conveniently, was timed to start right when Operation Barbarossa was due to kick off, which would provide a nice distraction.

So, the original Winter War, the Finns stopped Russia without losing too much, and put up a much better fight than anybody else in the world was expecting (including the USSR). When Round 2 came about, the Finns had no choice but to team up with the Nazis against the Soviets, since Germany at least wasn't invading them at the time.

Yes, because it's always so much better when the Russians and Finns cooperate.

Soldering a lead from 120v to the +5v on your USB's feed bus will gently remind users that you frown on their shenanigans.

Just make sure you sever the feed from the ret of the motherboard.

And those little 3M headlight reminders aren't too bad either.

As for Finland?

Imagine having to team up with Satan in order to protect your soul.

They are wrongly maligned for their actions to protect their country.

I don't hear anyone maligning Finland.  I think most people who know enough to know about Finland's involvement in WWII know enough to realize that they really had no good option.

If we can blame Germany for Hitler and the Nazis, we can blame Finland for Mannerheim and Lapua.

I'm not sure a 10:1 kill ratio (in some battles it was as high as 30:1) counts as "winning" no matter what the final outcome of the war was.

You may have a different metric than me.

That's called 'winning the battle but losing the war'.

If war was about kill ratios then Germany won both world wars.

They lost only 125 000 lives to reconquer lands lost in 20s. If that's not victory I don't know what is

This.

1 Million Germans vs. 2 Million Russians.

Germans lose 200K, Russians lose 850K, Russians win.
