Eh. One time, when I was way back in middle school, our school bus backed right over a ferrari, while there was a person in it.  She had to jump out of the opened top, and run across the street, and watch her expensive-ass car get crushed.

//never saw that substitute bus driver again.

Ugliest looking Ferrari I've ever seen!

It's an FF, no one cares.

Dealerships are required to take an FF to get a 458, because no one wants one.

I don't think I would even consider owning a Ferrari in Manhattan.  Cars in the city just get trashed.  Though, I'm assuming this thing doesn't usually get parallel parked.

So much this. Don't even get me started on the FF's AWD system. Insanely complicated and barely effective. Not everything that comes out of Maranello is a winner.

i'm a car nerd and i.... kind of like the FF. the idea of a 4wd 12-cylinder shooting break is so over-the-top that it's kind of awesome.

then again, i'm the only one i know who likes the porsche panamera, so there's that.

FTFA:Ferrari fans are declaring the car a complete write-off

I don't know much about the innards of pasta rockets, nor am I a qualified insurance adjuster, but there's just no way that's $300k worth of damage. I'm sure it's probably a hell of a lot more to fix than comparable damage to a Civic. But complete write-off? Really?

If they had taken the time to park it instead of leaving it in the street, we wouldn't be reading about this.

I'd like to find the address of the delivery place and send them a thank you note.

Glad to see I'm not the only person who thinks that car looks awful. Maybe this wasn't such an accident.

I find the FF interesting---but if I had that kind of money (and was constrained to purchasing Ferraris), I'd still prefer a 458, honestly.  The Panamera is just fugly.  If I really needed a pretty 4-door sports car, I'd get an Aston Martin Rapide.

It could be depending on the internal damage.  The engine is in the front, as is the stupid AWD system DaAlien mentioned.  If they were damaged significantly, I can see totalling it.

Came here to say this. It all looks like cosmetic damage anyway.

Whoa...weird.  I saw one of those this morning waiting to merge onto 395.

It's not even close to being a beautiful Ferrari, but if anyone is giving one away I will gladly take one for the team.

There was someone driving it. I assume they just pulled up to the back of the truck in traffic, as you would, and then the truck reversed.

/If you're behind a truck make sure you are slightly over to one side so you can be seen in his mirrors. If you're dead centre he won't see you.

Someone wants to give me one, I'd drive it, no question. And in certain colors (dark, but not black) it looks alright in person, way better than in the press photos. But if I were to have that kind of money to spend on a car, there's a few other directions I'd probably go first.

2013-11-01 09:55:20 AM
From TFA:

Luckily, nobody was hurt by the scrape. The owner of the Ferrari wasn't around either to see his baby scraped. A paid-driver was behind the wheel when the accident occurred.

And this driver didn't take any sort of action because...?

The panamera's not a bad looking car, but it's still more Cayenne than 911.

As for the FF, I'll skip the fancy Italian styling and useless rear seats, save about $225,000, and go with this:

Parts are expensive. A friend recently had a problem with The transmission of his Nissan Murano (I.e. not a crazy expensive thing). The replacement tranny was quoted at 1/3 of the new value! And more than half of what he paid used.

some of this, but also, where did the truck begin backing up? did he pull into that lane going forward, and then back up? did the ferrari park there between the time the trucker turned left into that lane, and the time the trucker began backing? i think the trucker had been cutoff by the ferrari earlier, saw it double-parked, and used the "i didn't see nothin'" excuse to cream it.

FlashHarry:

i work a parttime 2nd job valeting...the panamera is the only porsche i like driving. that said, if i could open up a carrera 4s on a track or a non-congested autobahn, i'm sure i'd love it...but they're simply not made for city streets at normal speeds. the panamera is a smooth comfy ride

if i had $300k to spend on a sport car, i'd buy a 2014 corvette stingray, plus a 2014 mini cooper, plus a good family grocery getter like a hyundai santa fe, pay off my house, and put approx $50k in my retirement savings

A new transmission cost $10,000?  I replaced the transmission in my BMW for less than $2000 out the door.  Are you sure they didn't just think your friend was a mark?

while i LOVE the cts-v (aka "luxery vette"), and had no idea there was a wagon version, the family and i like something that sits up higher. the vette would be a once a week fun driver, the cooper would be my commuter.

Cars nowadays have so much excess horsepower that people really should be concentrating on looks rather than performance. Your average 500-horsepower mid-life-crisismobile driver would kill themselves if they ever actually put their foot down.

$100,000-$150,000 gets you a 911, Vantage, GT-R, etc. I'm not sure why you'd spend more than that. Hell, $55,000 gets you a Cayman, and most people will never figure out you don't have a 911.
