Railroad crossings may be the second biggest drunk magnets after flashing police car lights.

Huh.  From the headline, I was expecting this to be another GPS messed up moron.

Just FYI, "WTAP" is the TV station.. and the link goes to the newspaper (so "DUMBASS" must be for subby lol).
ANYHOW, good to see the city right across the river getting some laughs on here.

/now off to fight the traffic where all the power lines are down (at top of page in headline)

Looks like an Expedition.  But I'm not really up on my ghetto plows.

BELPRE -A Belpre woman was arrested, charged with driving while intoxicated and trespassing after attempting to drive her vehicle over the railroad bridge into Parkersburg.

According to the page with TFA, this is Parkersburg, West Virginia. I'm guessing the driver committed some variant of "hold my beer and watch this".

Clevenger said it was reported more than one person was in the vehicle, but when officers arrived only Strahler was in the SUV.

Good news. I dumped the bodies and only got a DUI.

It's a Chevy, Expeditions haven't had external antennas since first generation, nor do they come in that color.

I once was talking to a cop who was working in the same building as me who basically said that your second point is true. According to this cop, drunks can't processes the flashing light and determine whether or not they're on a collision course with an object with a flashing light on it. Apparently, cop cars on the side of the road at night (according to this cop) do get hit by drunks too often.

Phil: It's the same things your whole life. "Clean up your room!", "Stand up straight!", "Pick up your feet!", "Take it like a man!", "Be nice to your sister!", "Don't mix beer and wine, ever!". Oh yeah - "Don't drive on the railroad tracks!"
Gus: Eh, Phil... That's one I happen to agree with.

Well, it wasn't a DeLorean.

Clevenger said Thursday's scene wasn't the first time someone tried to drive across the railroad bridge.
"I've known of one or two that made it across," he said. "It would be quite an adventure. I can't imagine anyone in their right mind wanting to drive across the railroad bridge.

I've always wanted to drive down a certain stretch of track that cuts diagonally between two roads.  I wonder if a Chevy Traverse has enough ground clearance.  I don't think so, but it is fun to drive in field-parking.

I never lived near a bridge that would have crossings where you could get on/off on each side of the river.

You know who else liked to cross railroad bridges?

Back when my brother was a mechanic for BFI he was called out multiple times for drunks slamming into the back of street sweepers, due to the flashing lights.  Now a lot of street sweepers will have another truck follow them that has a crash barrier mounted to the rear.
