Cliff was indeed the master of the 4-string mutherf*cker, but I doubt he would waste a single thought on the likes of Bieber.

I would like to see the boys adopt Beebs street thug gangsta persona, and put out a new bombtrak and film as hardkor gangsta metal muthafukaz. That would appeal to youngsters, and be dope.

Pretty much this. They were good back in the day and they always put on a good live show. Then it all went to shiat. I think they might have secretly been replaced by body snatching aliens with only a fading semblance of any real musical talent.

Stop calling yourself Metallica!
Yes, you all might have been members of what we know as Metallica, but what you are now is something completely different. Granted, it's okay to get "soft" as you age and get open-minded, as wisdom comes with consideration. But the brand you established is now getting beyond-tarnished by what you've become.
Musically, you've gone from making your sound more melodic and easier to scientifically listen to into easy listening Muzak with a loud guitar and drum. You are the Tea Party of heavy metal. You once stood for something, but then you got lost to the point you're really against what you once stood for. You love a good crowd and played music for THEM, but now it's all about getting them there to pay YOU. Once you learned your raw sound could be made commercial, you never stopped pursuing commercial viability. Which - in reality - is why you're fans of that twerp. He sells...and nothing else matters.

Fark those pathetic old whores. The only thing metal about those losers is their platinum credit cards.

/ I don't have a problem with wanting to get paid for your shiat, nor do I necessarily support people pirating it with their flimsy rationalizations, but after awhile whining about it like you're starving in the streets becomes a wee bit douchey when you have as much money as they do

Bob Rock got involved (boy band producer of Aerosmith, The Cult, Bon Jovi, and Mötley Crüe). You see the bubblegum pop hooks getting added. It's also a very successful formula and when a couple dump trucks full of money come to your doorstep well keep doing what makes that happen.

By "cover", they mean "sing a few seconds of the guitar solo while playing air guitar/masturbating", so yes, he did cover the song.

I still like the music, but lost a lost of respect for the "band" as an image thing the day I saw Lars jamming along to Avril Lavigne's version of Fuel on the MTV Icon massacre.

James I respect as a guy because of the way he's dealt with his own stuff, but the rest of 'em...

I mean, can't blame someone for making money. Bob Rock changed everything, I think for the better. Say what you want, the music was better. The "black album" was huge because it was good. Played to death, but good. I like that they've gone to Rick Rubin for something different, but I'm not a fan of the results, save 1 or 2 things from Magnetic.

At least they are trying something new. May not be successful, but they try. Credit for that.

Watching the "Some Kind of Monster" documentary put me at peace with my love of Metallica, and my hate of their stupid decisions. Turns out: they're just people. They have lives, goals, and flaws. They're a couple of guys trying to make great music under a lot of scrutiny. And honestly, even their worst crap is still pretty good.

So I'd have to hear the whole cover song before I say anything further. But from reading the article it sounds like the guys from Metallica are more concerned that he doesn't ruin his life, or have some of the same problems they did. Hell, some of them are dads. I'm sure they'd say the same things to their own kids. So everybody chill the f*ck out.

I actually like Avril's music (I know, I know), but goddamn that's the worst cover of any song I've ever heard. It's fantastically bad.

I was actually impressed that he would cover that song live and then I clicked the video. Yeah really nothing to see there.

That kid needs to get something for those crabs before they get bad... Pretty soon, you're shaving everything(Everything!) down there, shampooing with this shiat that burns(Everything down there) like Hell, possibly buying new bedding, maybe a new mattress, and then literally lather, rinse, repeat at least a few more times over the next 3 months. The way he's scratching his crotch, it might already be too late.

Garage Inc? The double disc cover album? I liked it as well, hell I even liked a few tracks on Load/Reload. Granted they should have cherry picked the songs on both load/reload to make a single good album. But I really haven't liked anything they've done since.

I liked S&M more than most of their albums.

LOL, why are you all surprised (at any stage of their multi-year sell-out process), particularly given the song in question is a power ballad?

I had to look back to remember which album came out when. For some reason I thought S&M came out before those two. I liked S&M quite a bit although I actually prefer their regular arrangement for Ecstasy of Gold without the orchestra.

Sounding horrible is the least of that album's problems. I've heard plenty of albums with terrible mix/recording that is still enjoyable due to the music. This is lacking in both departments.

no, because no one in metal did what Metallica did - make it ok for the mainstream to like, purchase and listen to metal.

Napster was a long time ago, and they (well, Lars) was right anyway.
