(KTAR Phoenix)   If driving a fuel tanker truck, it's probably not good idea to be looking at scantily clad women on your phone. Especially so if there are emergency vehicles stopped in your path   (ktar.com) divider line 40

Oh I'm sorry KrispyKritter, I didn't mean to offend your impression of those schleps on the muni dole. My only interaction with pigs is when they set up checkpoints (once per month during my commute) or solicit money from me on the phone. Honestly, they've never ever 'served' nor 'protected' me.

I'm surprised this does not happen twenty times per week. Everyone is texting while driving.

We are a nation of distracted operators of big, fast, sharp metal objects.

We will finally get legislation when someone with power loses a loved one to an idiot texting.

I've called them a few times. I've come to the following conclusions:

Cops exist to give you a report to give to your lawyer or insurance company. If there's something going down, they'll show up 45 minutes later after the actors have left and harrass the witnesses.

The only times cops have been useful to me is in Pittsburgh when I'm out busking. They can often tell me where there's decent foot traffic, and will keep drunks from getting in my face.

Anything other time, they're highwaymen with letters of Marque.

Driving? Hell. Try skateboarding. I saw some kid a month ago go right into a telephone pole trying to text and "board". Sad part is from my bird's eye view I saw it coming two blocks away. That kid went through two intersections and up to a lighted one WITH another person 2 feet away and BAM! Not a farking one of ya could be bothered to put that shiat back in your pocket for later. What happened to NOT giving your kids cell phones at age 12? Or at all? It's just a set up for failure. Or adults apperently. The shaming thing has to come back.

I encountered the most ass-hatted road closure evar last night so I'm getting a kick...

I was driving along Hwy 21 south of CoSprgs (or however they abbreviate it on the road signs around here) in a 55+ zone.  I say 55+ because the posted speed was at least that fast.  Might have still been 60 or 65.  Approaching a signal-controlled intersection with a green light and saw a couple of orange signs in my lane.  Slowed down and it turns out they were detour signs directing traffic to turn left or right at the intersection.  The signs were on the far side of the intersection with no warnings of any kind for traffic approaching the intersection at speed.  And they weren't even smart enough to lock the lights on red.  Or have a cop with his/her lights flashing.  Just a couple unlit signs on saw horses in the middle of a 4 lane highway with green lights on the signal.

Farking, putting on makeup, texting, reading...can you please not do it while driving? Is that too difficult a concept to grasp? That it can wait until you're not operating a tonne of metal, glass, plastic and rubber flying down the road at top speed?

I had to watch a safety video when I started a new job once about a 17 year old pretty white girl (of course) who just graduated high school and died due to a texting and driving incident. All my sympathy for her went out the window when it turns out she was texting while driving and didn't have her seatbelt on and ran into the guardrail of a bridge. At least she just killed herself, instantly, getting ejected and splattered in the ditch.

I honestly felt worse for the poor schmuck who had to scrape her off the ground.

I honestly felt worse for the poor schmuck who had to scrape her off the ground.

The irony is that the poor schmuck scraping the texting teen off the guardrail runs a high risk of getting clipped by another texting teen.

I did 10 years as a volunteer fireman.  By far, the most dangerous job we had was traffic control.  The scary ones are the people who make actual eye contact with you, but still don't really see you.

It was a rhetorical question, but yeah.  I agree.

From what I've heard, cell phones are a bit down the list when it comes to stupid distractions causing accidents.
