That guy must be new to Houston.

And?

People take pictures of hamburgers every day for lunch. You think they're not gonna take pictures of something novel?

What's that a picture of? And who's the dweb on the right, is he some kind of internet website sensation?

He's dead. Not like they can do much to help and, well, he's not going anywhere.

I remember finding a dead homeless guy in Mexico City while I was on a student trip. I just followed the locals example and held my nose while I walked past.

Sick? Nah. It might be sick if they were posing with him or using his stinker hole to hold their golf tee.

The folks who were taking pictures merely reflect society.  If people as a whole really cared this guy would not have been on the street in the first place.

I used to be wide eyed and full of love for my fellow man. That turned into a dark, dark place by about the thousandth time some strung out homeless person asked me for money.

Bareefer Obonghit: It's not like they were making him more dead.

Depends.

Maybe he went from unconscious to dead, in which case people could have saved his life had they called 911.

If he had an heartattack, he would have been dead from the moment the first people saw him.

"If they just had used their cellphone to make a call instead of a picture, perhaps this man could still be alive today," he told KHOU.

If people called the cops every time they walked past a homeless guy lying on the ground the cops wouldn't have time for anything else.

JasonOfOrillia: The folks who were taking pictures merely reflect society.  If people as a whole really cared this guy would not have been on the street in the first place.

Actually no.  If the guy had made better decisions in his life, he wouldn't be homeless.  75% of homeless are drug addicts.  The only reflection on society is we're so married to our devices now, instead of asking or giving help, or enjoying a moment...the only thing we think about is how many people Like a Facebook status or how many hits on Youtube we can get.  It's pathetic both ways.

2013-10-31 11:25:49 PM
You don't have to call the cops every time you see a homeless person lying senseless. But you know what you can do? Ask if they're okay. You can physically touch them, you probably won't catch anything.

I've done this many times, couple of times a year easily in San Francisco. I've never had a single one get angry or threaten me. Sometimes it's just a nod. Sometimes it's a hand clasp and teary eyes because you farking gave a shiat.

On the CSB front, I have a cousin who was homeless (he's since passed away). He was mentally ill and despite his sisters doing everything possible his illness would always cause him to go back to the streets and self medicate. Their biggest fear was that he'd just vanish and they'd never know what happened. He got very sick a few weeks before he died and was hospitalized. His sisters were able to see him and be with him before he died. Just knowing he died safe and warm with people who loved him very much...was such a relief.

So yeah, I don't just think about my cousin when I see homeless people, but I also am so grateful to every person who's been kind to them as well, for everyone who was ever kind to my cousin. I don't mean giving money to every single homeless person you see, but actually giving a shiat and helping when people are in need is something we can all do. Give 'em a coat you don't need. Buy a sammich. Spare a cig.

Someone I know got a sudden attack of the gastro last winter. It was a nasty 48 hour bug that was going around. It was notable for its sudden onset of fever and ... intestinal complications. He passed out in the train coming home and came to crapping in his trousers. Wracked by the sudden fever and cramps, he could do nothing as kids leaned in to take photos with their phones.

2013-10-31 11:27:43 PM
He's dead -- why are they just standing around instead of calling an ambulance?!?

2013-10-31 11:31:25 PM
When a homeless person dies in Bangladesh, locals will often drag the body to the nearest field or ditch, douse it with gasoline and set it on fire. I asked my friend if it was a religious ritual. He said, "No. The stink smell goes away quicker if the body is burned." the next thing he said was the kicker. "You have to be sure to move the body when it's fresh, because if you drag the body when it's rotten, it leaves a trail of pieces of flesh all over the road, and that attracts rats."

It's pretty damn great living in the USA.

Well, it's a step better than dousing him in gasoline and burning him to death, like a couple of punks did here a week ago.

It's not like a reporter took the photo and had it posted in a major city newspaper.  Detroit News, I am looking at you.  Of course, the reporter learned of the dead body after some knuckle heads found the body in ice as they played hockey in the abandoned warehouse, and he was the only one they called.
