Why does the Easter Bunny always outdraw Jesus? He's got him right in his cross hares.

I'm sure their idea of "respectful conversations" amounts to "accept the premise of our belief 100% before we start talking".

Calm and respectful. Calm and respectful. Calm and respectful. Nope, not seeing it as an outcome. I await the follow up where some sort of violence breaks out.

Uh huh.  A "respectful conversation" . . . in a church . . . on a culture-war issue.

I have a feeling the "respectful conversation" will be between those who want to arm first-graders and those who think first grade is way too young and it's really in third grade that kids really develop good hand-eye coordination.

Did Jesus ever say anything about the right to bear arms?

I thought he was big on the swords into plowshares thing.

Considering all that 'turn the other cheek' and 'thou shall not kill' stuff, you'd think the various churches would be at the forefront of the gun-control issue.

But then, they not get as much in tithes if they anger their herpa derp flocks.

Barry Lyndon's Annuity Cheque: Did Jesus ever say anything about the right to bear arms?

I thought he was big on the swords into plowshares thing.

Jesus and Ronald Reagan used M16s to hunt deer in the Garden of Eden. Later they took the kills to Ted Nugent's house, and listened to "Love Grenade" while Peggy Noonan did a sexy dance with Mona Charen.

It's nice that at least one person here looking to discuss the Bible has actually read it!

Christian churches tend to treat the issue differently depending on whether they're urban or rural.  Poor white folks in a sparely populated community aren't big on gun control and neither are their churches.  Poor urban black fold tend to be very for gun control and so are their churches.

This is America. We aren't going to be having any respectful conversations about guns.
There isn't anything remotely new or interesting to say on the subject.
This means that only bores with axes to grind will be discussing it.

That would be nice, but I'm not holding my breath.

I dunno, maybe they're sticking a "turn the other cheek" Christian, an "I come not to bring peace" Christian, a Paulite Christian, and an old-Testament protestant in the room together?

The New Testament alone has at least four distinct, mutually-exclusive positions on violence in general.  And none about guns, obviously, given the whole 1000 years early thing.

Guns and dogs are 2 things that we can't seem to have any rational discussion over.  I would say religion, but that is moving down the list as more people grow completely tired of Conservative Jesus.  Libertarian-ism is quickly moving up the ranks though.

If you want a respectful conversation, conduct yourself in a manner that earns respect.

So Christians continue their fight to repeal the 6th commandment.

lilbjorn: So Christians continue their fight to repeal the 6th commandment.

As well as continue their fight to change the 1st admendment to read "Christians only are allowed to practice freely, everyone else must submit to Christian law as we interpret it."
