I don't know about dead cats, but I do know that dead puppies aren't much fun. They don't come when you call. They don't chase squirrels at all.

Reminds me of this one time a crazy (ex-)friend of mine and I went to her even crazier friend's house to hang out and the crazier lady had some frozen cat parts in her freezer in a little plastic baggie, right next to the ice maker: an ear and a paw. She was keeping them frozen so she could have the cat cloned someday.

You'd better believe I didn't have any more of the icy margaritas she'd made.

/cool story, sis. Literally.

I recommend everyone here who hasn't seen it watch Frankenhooker. It's about a guy who tries to reanimate his wife using hooker parts after she's beheaded in a lawnmower accident.

Bite me, Kryten.

Frankenstein made a man. The person who makes a man is called a "Father". The monster was Frankenstein's baby and therefore Frankie Jr.

It may sound like a smart ass quibble in answer to a smart ass quibble, but if somebody succeeds in animating dead animals, the police and the Courts will have him or her to rights because you are legally reponsable for your children and pets.

So it's not a quibble. It's legal chicanery and hair-splitting. So there.

By the way, my desk calendar for today has a Halloween-appropriate item, namely an actual US court case:

Frankenstein v. Independent Roofing & Siding.

There really are Frankensteins in this world. Mary Shelley did not make the name up. In fact, she named the character after Castle Frankenstein rather than vice-versa.

Have any of you ever read the book for young readers entitled Frankenstein's Aunt? It is pretty good. And I had no idea until just now that there were two other books and a TV mini-series of seven episodes. WANT.

Hey, maybe Frankenstein's Auntie is still up to her old tricks in new digs. (ha! ha!) Could be. If we lived in an alternative reality where Frankenstein really existed. There must be lots of those because I've run across lots of stories and books about Frankenstein that were clearly set in alternative worlds.

Watch out for Frankenstein's Aunt.

Also for Son of Frankenstein, Frankenstein's Daughter, Jesse James meets Frankenstein's Daughter, and so forth.

And if I may, I would like to recommend the book A Night in the Lonesome October by Roger Zelazny.

It's like a Gahan Wilson cartoon come to life! With Gahan Wilson cartoons as illustrations!

You get to meet all your old favs: Frankenstein, Sherlock Holmes, the Wolf Man, Dracula, and so forth. They are Openers or Closers (trying to open a gateway to the Elder Gods of H.P. Lovecraft or to prevent this) and as the game begins, nobody knows who is whom. The story is narrated by the dog, whose Master is Jack the Ripper. Great fun for the whole family!

Fano: Church will come back from the Micmac burial ground fine this time, I swear.

I had to look this up (I have never seen the movie, although I have a VHS tape of it somewhere).

The Micmacs were the local natives where I was born. I am surprised at the map of their territory as I was told the Maleseet Indians owned half of that territory at least. No doubt there were double claims or perhaps this is after the Maleseet (North Shore and Nova Scotia) settled with the British. I'd have to look that up.

Any hoo, the novel is set in territory very well known to me. I have even seen a Micmac Burial Ground with an old white-washed wooden chapel and the sunken graves. One of my cousins is half-Micmac, I believe. Cute kid, shame he grew up on a lousy reservation instead of having better opportunities in life.

There is a University of Maine campus in Presquile, Maine, which is probably the one where the character in the novel teaches since it seems to be the only one in Northern Maine. Of course, the actual campus in the novel could be a mixture of different models and imagination. Another campus which is possibly the model is the U. of Maine in Fort Kent, on the Saint John River.

There is a scale model of the solar system in the area (although perhaps not at that campus, with model planets the correct distances from the Sun. Which is quite close for the inner planets, but many miles away for Jupiter. You might be able to walk the distance from the Sun to Earth.

Whatever way you look at it, this Stephen King novel is probably the one that hits closest to home for me, although all of his Maine settings are relatively closer than, say, Miskatonic University, although I have ancestors from Rhode Island, Connecticut, etc. as well as Maine.

I don't care much for Stephen King so I don't read him, but I do have several movies based on his work.

Carrie is the best I have seen. The horror is largely psychological and the psychology is good. That crazy Mother of Carrie's is a sick broken woman, and poor Carrie could have had a long and useful life if she could have gotten away from her Mother and could have survived high school. It's sad because it's true.

On the other hand, I've seen plenty of parodies that were quite funny. I love comic horror stories, or horror stories that are so bad they are comical.

Halloween is my kind of holiday. No obligations, freedom to do as you please. And, of course, some of the best movies and TV shows and books in my collection. I might even play "Spooky" or some of the other Halloween-themed music I have on my iPod on the way home.

I got the territories of the Micmac and the Maliseet or Malecite backwards. The Malecite lived in the Saint John River valley, Southern Nova Scotia, and Northern Maine. the Micmac lived on the North Shore of the Maritime provinces. So my cousin once-removed is probably Maliseet.

The various tribes (Micmac, Maliseet, Passamaquoddy) apparently speak much the same language and were loosely confederated and related at least.

The rest of Maine was and is Abenaki (Eastern and Western) territory. But I digress.
