jjorsett: Would that they devoted this kind of effort to coming up with programs that weren't control-freak, nanny-state, liberty-squelching money pits..

Leave Reagan's presidency out of this.

Meanwhile, go send 3 easy installment payments of $49.95 to SarahPAC or NewtPAC or SantorumPAC to help them run for office, and help ensure that another "community organizer" without a real job never gets elected again.

I particularly enjoy the subtext that the government should always be subservient to corporations. "Don't say that - you'll make the corporations feel bad!"

I suspect it is not a great sink in day to day use, but still awesome.

I would so have to pee in that.

I don't think it would hold your weight to squat in it, Mrs. How.

You know, if Obama had been a community organizer for the past 20 years without advancing at all...I'd be more than willing to admonish him.

Of course, he's been to one of the best law schools on the planet, a state senator, a us senator, and leader of the free world for the past 5 years.

Meanwhile, some nitwit from west Texas is absolutely destroying him on the internet because Beavis totally knows more about healthcare than him. And, he HAS been at the exact same job for 20 years.

i seem to recall there being a period of time when the PPACA was "a handout to the insurance Industry" President Obama was giving money to his crony buddies.

now i understand that these catchphrases change from week to week & that a lot of what the low info public hate about the act is mainly due to misinformation spread by the Conservative propaganda machine BUT can't the opposition show some integrity? maybe at least keep what you said last week on this weeks list? can't they ... well, how about you guys write down your grievences on paper so that you don't contradict yourselves into being neglected by people who are more interested in facts, logic and a stronger healthier better insured American public?

dr_blasto: The obamacare is a fiasco because it started out as a compromise with the Republicans. When the Democrats start in Republican territory they get this bullshiat every time. Then, you get the same results you saw in 2010.

Democrats did exactly what you wanted in 1993 when Clinton pushed for single payer.  It was a complete and utter failure that never sniffed becoming law, and the GOP cleaned their clocks in 1994 and took over the House for the first time in 40 years.

Change in this country generally always comes incrementally.  Medicare didn't just magically appear out of the air in 1965.   It was a culmination of progress of small steps that dated back to FDR and the 1930s.

James!: Dancin_In_Anson: You still clap for Tinkerbell every time you watch Peter Pan, don't you?

Weird response.  I suppose you wouldn't just admit that you have no idea what a community organizer does.

Good point. After all, a community organizer has listening and empathy skills, the ability to motivate and focus an often disparete (sp?) Group in a cooperative endeavour for the common good, a focus on the lives of the real people in the community. Dunno about you, but those sound like some pretty stellar qualities in the leader of a democratic nation, to me at least.

Oh, who will protect the poor, helpless, powerless insurance companies?

2013-10-31 02:57:22 PM
The insurance companies need to stop lying and tell people they are getting rid of old plans because they have chosen not to do them anymore instead of implying they legally can't.

Saying "We got rid of this plan because it's not ACA compliant" - implies that under Obamacare they could still not offer the plan, which is not true. Plans that didn't majorly change from 2010 could be ran forever and even newer plans could be run for a full year more under ACA. The insurance companies are just choosing not to.

They just want their customers blaming Obama instead of them for getting rid of their plans.

/Anyone have any idea how we can rephrase the discussion we were having to make it closer to the topic at hand?

Tell you what I'd like to see- instead of stupid sniping from anonymous sources how about a discussion on ways to improve the law that are actually plausible right now (ie- not scrap it, and not single payer).

What do you have against single payer?

Oh, nothing at all- I'd prefer it.  I also recognize that it isn't politically possible right now between complete GOP apoplexy and squishy bluedogs.

It would have significant support from the good 'ol Chamber of Commerce and therefore their representation in Congress. Individuals support the concepts, I'm certain that it might be a good way to kick the retards out of the House.

Single-payer is better for the economy, better for business large and small, better for individuals, better for the medical community.

Insurance companies would have to move to selling supplemental or enhanced plans, but, who gives a fark about an industry that was in the business of raping the least able to protect themselves for yearsandyearsandyears.

Hell, US-based businesses could better compete on the international stage as they wouldn't have the health insurance burden dragging them down while their European competition pointed and laughed.

Pensions could be a thing again.

Dude, you don't have to convince me, I'm already there.

But have you been asleep for the last four years?  Obamacare is a tiny, around the edges bit of marketplace reforms and it's being treated like the end of the world by the right.  It is insane to pretend that something like single payer could get through our broken political system right now.

Dems should have fought for single payer from the beginning, and then given it up as the compromise for instituting a public option instead.

Even if that failed, it is better to have fought for a real solution and point out the people who kept it from happening, than to pass half-measures that didn't fundamentally reform anything and which then have to be defended down the road.

That's not what Hillarycare was. It was forcing employers to pay for all employees to join free-market HMOs. It was riddled with problems, poorly sold and the task force was a sham. It was nothing like a single-payer system.

Hell, the thing was so poorly set up the task force was sued. Hillary was already a divisive person politics and, as the first real First Lady to become a "part" of government (read: formally), the right went apoplectic.

It would have, likely opened the door for single-payer to sneak through. Obamacare actually opened that door. The left, center and center-right should walk the fark through that door and cast the retard brigade aside. It is good policy, good for the citizenry, good for business (well, not the leeches in the insurance world, but as I said, fark them). Rarely does policy cross the path of actually being good for everything.
