Those poor insurance execs.

They're able to take the high road because they don't engage in any fear-based, unethical business pract...

I can't even finish that snark.

"We successfully marketed a shiat product to a captive audience and used regulations set up by lobbyists to engage in anticonsumer practices. And people were so clueless they were happy with it because it was better than the alternative of dying! Now we have to meet minimum standards and actually have to compete on a freer market and it suuuuuucks."

Notice the highlighted word there. It is very important.

The only thing they are "embarrassed" by is that fact that they've been selling shiat plans for years that are more of a scam than any kind of insurance.

Fark these people, they've literally had YEARS to prepare, and now they're playing it like they've been caught off guard and have no choice.

Ronald Reagan, an actor.

Look at George Washington, even. All he ever did was run a plantation that he inherited. Hell, he even had slaves do all the work.

When I want to know how to keep a country together and prosecute a civil war, I just ask an uneducated, failed lawyer and businessman who couldn't even get elected to the House.

Lincoln wasn't a failed lawyer. He was quite good at it.

What? We've been offering a VERY affordable plan that allows healthy individuals who never see a doctor to pay us every month until there is an emergency. Tell you what I'd like to see- instead of stupid sniping from anonymous sources how about a discussion on ways to improve the law that are actually plausible right now (ie- not scrap it, and not single payer).

What do you have against single payer?

Oh, nothing at all- I'd prefer it.  I also recognize that it isn't politically possible right now between complete GOP apoplexy and squishy bluedogs.

There's also the hundreds and hundreds of millions of lobbying dollars the insurance industry would  use to kill it in it's lawmaking crib.   See the Clinton Healthcare Plan of 1993.

And that was back when there were still a lot of reasonable Republicans who were actually interested in making government work better, and when someone like Phil Gramm stood out in the party as an epic douche.   Today Phil Gramm would be run out of the GOP as a RINO.

It would have significant support from the good 'ol Chamber of Commerce and therefore their representation in Congress. Individuals support the concepts, I'm certain that it might be a good way to kick the retards out of the House.

Single-payer is better for the economy, better for business large and small, better for individuals, better for the medical community.

Insurance companies would have to move to selling supplemental or enhanced plans, but, who gives a fark about an industry that was in the business of raping the least able to protect themselves for yearsandyearsandyears.

Hell, US-based businesses could better compete on the international stage as they wouldn't have the health insurance burden dragging them down while their European competition pointed and laughed.

Pensions could be a thing again.

Dude, you don't have to convince me, I'm already there.

But have you been asleep for the last four years?  Obamacare is a tiny, around the edges bit of marketplace reforms and it's being treated like the end of the world by the right.  It is insane to pretend that something like single payer could get through our broken political system right now.

The obamacare is a fiasco because it started out as a compromise with the Republicans. When the Democrats start in Republican territory they get this bullshiat every time. Then, you get the same results you saw in 2010.

Democrats should move back to their own territory. They can win elections without being Republicans and cede the right-wing back to the racists and nut bars.

Single payer would pass were the Democratic Party in the business of supporting it. The last 5 years aren't relevant to its success or failure. Hell, it could be the final nail on the teabagger coffin/septic tank.
