I'm not going to generalize this hooligan behavior to the legion of Sox fans out there.  However, I have noticed a bizarre level of completely undeserved "underdog" spirit amongst my more-vocal friends of that fan persuasion.  Listen: your team may have sucked last year, but they weren't supposed to.  They have a massive payroll, are packed with stars, and led most of the season.  That the Sox and Cards faced off is no surprise to anyone.

Take that level of exceptional-feeling fandom, add in a lot of alcohol and figure that 1:20 of the people there are complete dumbasses, and this is going to happen.

Racist. Had it not been a bunch of white dudes they would have said they were rioting instead of celebrating.

You know, a lot is said about NYers.  When one of our teams win a title however, all we do is get drunk and party.

It gets worse when you think of how spoiled rotten that city has been for titles in the past decade.

Yeah...cause no other fanbase has its share of dbags.

They do say it was rioting.  Even the videos that show celebration.

Were any of the flipped cars wearing Missouri license plates? Because thats just asking for it right there.

Hell even Philly wasn't that bad and that 08 was their first title in ANY sport in about 20 years.

2013-10-31 12:19:14 PM
If that's the worst they can find from last night, then I'd say it's pretty good.

I think sports riots that don't injure anyone are kinda cool.  I'm sure the pearl-clutchers will be in here crying about it though.

For whatever reason some places riot after winning it all and others do not. That isnt even in doubt

To be fair, it has been 2 years since a Boston team won a championship.  That is a long time to wait.

Here in Cleveland, we'd probably just stand around staring at each other because nobody would know what to do.

2013-10-31 12:27:38 PM
That's pretty typical, isn't it.  These people are all just a bunch of savages.  They're animals.  When is the mainstream media going to admit that there's a problem with these people?

I think it's their culture of violence and THUGGERY that drives them to act this way.  It's all in the music they listen to and the movies they watch.  We even give them their own holiday in March and still they do this.  When does it end?

So, since they flipped over a car with the driver still in it, you're condemning this, right?

There's a new cliche' in post-championship interviews, where players lament that "nobody believed in us".  It's risen to the level of "we came to play" and "we wanted to execute our game plan".

I was waiting for someone to post that... the most Philly thing ever that doesn't come on an Amoroso roll.

They have a completely enviable cadre of owners and respective front offices up there.

It has been.

All being said the majority of the "fans" rioting are college kids from other parts of the country drunk and just looking to destroy stuff.

The fact that there was one flipped car and 9 arrests in a city that is home to so many colleges, I find that rather amazing.

/Boston, at least we're not Vancouver

Talk about a city that DEFINED "you're new here, aren't you?"

2013-10-31 12:33:05 PM
Big deal about some incidents. Nothing burned down, there weren't roving bands of people causing mayhem, and there are no local of national major news stories about Boston disgracing itself. Most stories I've seen have focused on the win and the team. It feels like Deadspin and people with an agenda are looking for whatever they can to say the fans were out of control, but most were well behaved and the police did a great job in crowd control.

Sorry if Boston did not turn itself in Vancouver 2.0 or some Los Angeles celebrations after a Lakers Title victory. Not every idiot in a celebration can be controlled and I feel the story was being nitpicky.

Maybe the Lakers won the title, and that's why this is all happening.

I'm betting they had an article like this for both cities as soon as the teams were set for the series, just fill in a few blanks with a couple specifics.  People look forward to reading this shiat they day after any sports season ends.

The saddest rioting I ever saw was at URI in 2003......after a Game 1 loss....of the ALDS....to the As.

Cars flipped and dumpsters set on fire.  It was pathetic and poorly timed.

2013-10-31 12:41:14 PM
Its an agenda against a fine city and only outsiders rioted. Every fanbase has a few bad eggs from other places.  Yep sounds like what Vancouverites said.

2013-10-31 12:42:54 PM
So a college town, where most of the students there weren't present during the previous Sox win, had a bunch of college-aged people finding an excuse to cause damage?  Ya don't say.

While I think it's despicable that they are out there overturning cars and such, it could probably be worse.  At least I haven't heard any reports of anyone dying from bean bag rounds or anything yet this year.

2013-10-31 12:43:03 PM
Any time there is a large crowd, troublemakers hoping the anonymity of crowds will let them get away with rioting and looting will show up. Hopefully with cameras everywhere in this era, they will be caught, and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

No, St. Louis has won many championships and has never had a riot after them.

That's like saying, "If Lindsay Lohan's STD test only came back positive for herpes, it's pretty good."

This is EXACTLY the sort of false flag riot that Missouri Republicans would start to besmirch Boston's good name.

Vancouver? THIS, IS, BOSTON!

Boom, leg kick to chest.

The riot? No.Vancouver was much worse. The excuses on FARK fot having a riot in one's fair city? Yes they sound exactly the same.

The riot in Vancouver was because they LOST.  I imagine if this is what Boston did after winning, what they'd do after losing would make Vancouver's riot look like a mild commotion.

2013-10-31 12:55:51 PM
For what its worth Detriot probably had bigger riots last night on Devil's Night.

And somehow they got a picture of Boston's Only Black Guy* front and center on top of an overturned car.

*Not counting David Ortiz
