Not to diss Christopher Lee, but I wanted Christopher Walken as Saruman.

/or at least a cameo as Grima

So, Frodo, he had the ring, and he didn't want the orcs to find it, so he hid, it in the only place a Hobbit could...in his ass.

Why would Jake have such trouble pulling off a British accent? I mean, his Arabic accent was fantastic in "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time"...

This is in my head forever, so why not yours too:

Take a really close look at the curve of Jake Gyllenhall's lips and the line under his nose. Doesn't he look like a big cat? He could be in Cats the musical and not need much makeup.

/Yes, I know it's called the philtrum.

How did he not know he was supposed to have a British accent? Even if he didn't know the book was very British, whoever he read with most likely had an accent. Probably for the best. After Brokeback Mountain this would have typecasted him as gayer than 4 Hobbits blowing 5 hobbits.

I think he couldn't wrap his head around Gandalf hanging about like a pervy hobbit fancier instead of shagging Cate Blanchett rotten.

Forget how bad his audition was, or even his talents as an actor. He is just physically wrong to play a Hobbit.

Sean Astin: 5' 7"
Billy Boyd: 5' 7"
Dominic Monaghan: 5' 7"

do you pick either,

Elijah Wood: 5' 6"
or Jake Gyllwhatever: 6' 0" (a little taller than Orlando Bloom)

Didn't Connery also not understand Star Wars? Is he legally retarded? Did Trebek's mother give him neurosyphilis?

There appears to be an entire generation of actors that somehow don't know how to pretend or imagine stuff.

I'll admit, i was pretty bomblasted when i saw the first 2 films, and didn't really follow the plot until it was explained to me, preceding the 3rd film.

When you see what they're doing with the Hobbit films, stretching a short book into three massive movies, I guess LotR could really have been much longer.

bingethinker: When you see what they're doing with the Hobbit films, stretching a short book into three massive movies, I guess LotR could really have been much longer.

And they still would have left the scene that showed what happened to Christopher Lee's character (basically the Darth Vader of the series) on the cutting room floor. I mean WTF?

The gave him narcotics...
IIRC Saruman even mantions Gandalf's love of the hobbits Pipe Weed in the books.
Plus Gladriel in a long term marriage.

I don't see how anyone could not understand what an amazing movie Zardoz is. After all anything that starts with a giant head pronouncing "The Penis is evil! The Penis shoots Seeds, and makes new Life to poison the Earth with a plague of men, as once it was. But the Gun shoots Death and purifies the Earth of the filth of Brutals. Go forth, and kill! Zardoz has spoken" is truly awesome.

All i know is that it's five days until the Hobbit Extended Edition comes out. When I saw the movie, i said to myself, "That's a long movie, but I bet it could be longer." And when Peter Jackson said "Challenge Accepted!" my only response was "Shut up and take my money!"

As much as Viggo did an excellent job, Daniel Day-Lewis would also have been a great choice for Aragorn.

It IS a pretty retarded meme....

Also if you believe Fark, everyone hated Lord of the Rings.  I'll bet it tanked at the box office.

Yeah, that's a lot easier to understand than "a group of guys have to drop a ring into a volcano. And a bunch of people also fight for some reason".

I don't hate the movies. They were good movies. They were a pretty poor adaptation of the source material though.

Since each book was really 3 books there was a ton of material left out.  Would be kind of neat if HBO, Showtime, AMC, or someone that cared (FU SyFy, Dune was a long way before Sharknado) that could let it expand but still be manageable chunks.  Heck the way BBC does the new Sherlock series would be pretty good.
