Jeeves attended the Edenbridge and Oxted Show, based at Ardenrun Showground, in Tandridge Lane, Lingfield, on August 25 this year. While at the showground he bought a catapult.

Did he look under the sofa cushions? That's where I always find stuff after I've lost them.

At least he still ended up with a job. farking vandals. I am just pissed off because one vandal threw a rock at my car while I was in school. The rock was right under my car and matched the dent it had. It was JUST my car.

Ok, so he drove around with a catapult in the car and used it to shoot out car windows?

Can I get a picture of that catapult?

Why do I get the feeling that 'catapult' in this case is what the Brits call a high-quality slingshot? It mentions him shooting steel bearings with it. I'm thinking he bought a nice slingshot at the fair and got in touch with his inner (drunken) child. I know the teens where I lived in Oklahoma would do the same thing: buy a nice slingshot, load it up with ball bearings and go around breaking windows and plinking at animals.

I get the part that he bought a slingshot, but, where was that, again?

Yes, a catapult is a small y shaped piece of wood with an elastic material to launch small projectiles, used by kids as above, but also farmers (for feeding certain animals, or plinking at wild animals like foxes if you don't want to carry a shotgun or whatever around all the time), which is why he would find one to buy at an agricultural show.

Ah, I definitely had an entirely different picture in my head. Kind of a boring story now.

When I first read the article, I was assuming that those must have been some MASSIVE chrome balls he was launching.

You Brits use funny words.

I think it pertinent to point out that if you look up catapult on Wikipedia, there is no mention of anyone in the world reffering to a slingshot as a catapult.

Here is another story from the UK from 2011 where they also refer to a slingshot as a catapult.

That one at least provides a visual aid so you can clearly tell that it is a slingshot they are talking about.
