He also said he's not as concerned about the tea party Republicans who drove the GOP through the shutdown, but rather the other members of the party that went along with it, voting to repeal Obamacare 45 times.
"My disappointment in all of this is not the 80 or 90 people who live in some other political world that I don't understand. But my disappointment is the so-called moderates who went along with this vote after vote after vote," Reid said. "Einstein said this, pure definition of insanity is somebody who does something over and over and over again and expects a different result. So that was my No. 1 concern, that these so-called moderate Republicans went along with this crazy stuff."

They should be embarrassed.

Imagining the right wing reactions after Ted Cruz got the nomination and then got legitimately raped by Hillary Clinton makes me want to change my registration to Republican just so I can vote in their primary for him.

Reid should be embarrassed. After actually SAYING that stupid "Einstein" thing, he has gone to the floor for vote after vote with these clowns and THIS time he expected the moderates to vote like intelligent people and not just do what their teahadi masters told them to do?

He was talking about the House, not the Senate.

FTFA:  So that was my No. 1 concern, that these so-called moderate Republicans went along with this crazy stuff.

You don't understand this, Sen. Reid?  Are you retarded?  It's called "posturing."  Even the moderate Republicans know they weren't going to repeal Obamacare.  They did their little song-and-dance routine to try and keep their jobs come 2014.  Operative word: try.

That may or may not make the GOP any less insane, though.

Would love to actually have the chance to get another party in the mix instead of this. Otherwise it's just going to continue to me 'who's going to f*** me less'.

The GOP is a completely dysfunctional political party. I have my doubts that their party is going to be able to pull away from the crazy without disintegrating. Sad. It had such promise when it was started up.

there was just an article the other day about misattributed quotes and iirc that one is actually from an NA handbook from the 80s.

Uh oh. This is bad. 2016 is looking like an epic Republican win. The last time this was the Democratic Party line, George Bush Jr. got a second term.

Fighting against an incumbent is always an uphill fight. An open election isn't quite the same. Plus, demographically, the Republicans have the uphill slog from here until they change some major party policies.

Does Ted Cruz have a long form birth certificate from the US of A ? I understand this is of great importance to the teahadist branch of the republican party.

Yeah, we need to get rid of the GOP once for all and just have a one-party system -- since that has worked so well throughout history!!!

A few seconds of thinking would lead you to realize that "80 or 90" out of a Senate of 100 members meant he thought nearly every single Senator of both parties were "so-called moderate" Republicans. Since this makes no sense, he must have been talking about the House.

No amount of reality can pierce that bubble. They would just call Cruz a RINO. Because at least 40% of eligible voters never vote hard right conservatives have convinced themselves that most of those non-voters are actually die hard conservatives that are too disgusted with the communist tendencies of both sides to vote. They will always believe that if a really real conservative stepped up the silent majority would get motivated and their candidate would win by at least 30 points.

There are several things at play here

1. Any admission that they are the wrong course and need to automatically suggest that the Democrats might be correct.  Therefore, that is not the direction that they will go.

2. They have already changed enough.  The no longer hang black people, they allowed women to have jobs and even vote, and now the gays are a special protected class.

3. They have isolated themselves in an echo chamber where the only thing that gets through is pre-approved programming that they agree with and that reinforces their beliefs  that they are right and democrats are wrong.

Therefor, the only logical thing to do is keep puling to the right.

Move to Georgia.  We have open primaries, so you can vote for any candidate in any party.  It's a legitimate strategy for some campaigns to vote for the worse candidate in the opposing party in low turnout elections.

Generally, having all-Democrat governments at the Federal level results in increased national prosperity.

I remember after the 2008 election that the GOP was going to be wandering in the wilderness "for a generation" before they won again. Then 2010 happened. Political oracular announcements aren't worth the paper they aren't printed on.

We'd need to change our electoral processes; this is an inherently unstable configuration in a winner-take-all scenario.

2010: A new wave of Republicans were elected on the "jobs jobs jobs!" platform.
2011-2013: The GOP doesn't do shiat about jobs but instead passes craploads of new anti-abortion bills and tries to repeal Obamacare 50 times and shuts down the government over it. Boehner proclaims that they should be judged not by the number of bills they pass but the number of laws that they repeal. Which is stupid, since they repealed zero laws.
2014: "But seriously...we're totally going to do those jobs bills if you vote for us."

If Harry Reid is already putting out this noise for a 2016 election it just shows how scared they truly they are of losing more seats in 2014

I would love to kick everyone in the nuts who attributes that quote to Einstein.  That is entirely the heart of experimental physics, like performing particle collisions looking for the Higgs boson!  You do same thing over and over, hoping for a different result - e.g., finding resonance evidence that the particle exists.

It is not the death of the GOP. There will always be gullible people that need fleecing; their bread and butter.

I don't even want to risk it.  If the GOP manages to get voter suppression off the ground and if they can gerrymander the electoral college, he might actually have a chance.
