(Yahoo)   Next time, the Chinese government may want to send a picture to the photoshopping contests. Would definitely be better than what they currently do   (news.yahoo.com ) divider line

It's the low-res monitors those poor people have to work with that are the problem.

They should outsource their work to Iran.

Bermuda59: They should outsource their work to Iran.

They should really just pay top dollar and approach North Korea instead.

This is probably a stupid question but I'll ask it anyway.  How would someone make it look like a person inserted into a photo look like their feet were on the ground?  Is it simply a matter of creating shadows?

They are most unbelievably bad.  But in the end, what does it matter.  The first person to point out it's a fake gets a bullet in the head.

That's part of it.  But the lighting on the person should at least be close to the background.  A little bit of trickery with the color balance and/or focus may be in order to.

I can only assume that whoever did these shops are using an OLD arse version of PS, where those sorts of things are quite a bit more tricky.

This one doesn't seem as outrageously bad as the others. Am I missing something?

Yeah, that one is way better and would fool most people who didn't have their alert on.

First noticeable thing is the black outline on the right guy's collar. Then the perspective seems a little off, the horizon is tilted but they're not. The red jacket guy's feet are too close together to balance on the terrain he's on, and the middle guy's right (our left) leg seems a little too short.

The reflection/shadow of middle guy's left (our right) leg looks authentic, though. This might be a composite of actual people in the scene.

Their feet seem off to me, especially the two on the left.  They are standing like they are on flat ground, but appear to be in an uneven area of rubble/debris.

Also, it could just be coincidence similar, and isn't proof...but the two guys in the backgound appear to have almost identical clothing on, and are about the same relative size as the guys in the foreground.

I only looked at it for about 10 seconds though, there might be something more obvious.

Yeah, that's real.  And submitting it to a photoshopping contest would do what exactly?  Let it lose?  This whole court is out of order and subby is the judge.

"A group of Chinese government officials "appear" to be visiting an elderly woman in Eastern China, except that she is bizarrely out of proportion to the rest of the group"

How is she "bizarrely out of proportion"? Seems about right.

Making sure the resolution and focus of the pieces match is important. And converting the photos to black and white makes matching much easier too since you don't have to worry about color tones and lighting as much.

A lot of the time I'll actually hide points where feet come in contact with the background because I'm lazy and that way I don't have to worry about it not looking great.

This is what I see.
•  The color saturation on all 3 are wrong.  They are too bright.
•  The focus is way off.  They are more blurry than the background.
•  The guy on the left's feet are flat on the ground, even though he is clearly standing on the edge of a sharp rock.
•  The guy in the middle - at least they made his left leg shorter to make it look like he's on the rock.
•  The guy on the right has mistakes all around his head and the back of his colar. His head is flat, for chrisake.  He also appears to be standing on his tippy toes.
•  None of them are casting shadows or reflections.  Look at the rock next to the guy on the left.

That's about 2 minutes worth of nitpicking.
I wonder though...  Two of those dudes in the way back are dressed like two of the dudes in the front.  I wonder if they were really there, at some point, just not how this photo shows.

The North Korean picture is noticable in that the group of people were taken with a fairly wide-angle lens, hence the feeling of "looking down" to see the feet of the foreground guys.  But the background pic is slightly tele, and the everything feels like it was further from the camera.
If you follow the background pic to a vanishing point, it's off to the left, however the apparent vanishing point of the people is somewhere behind Dear Leader's head.
The visual inconcrongruencies would make this an easy 'Shop to spot, no matter how well the images were combined, even with carefull shading, etc.

The 3 guys on the beach seem to show more of what would be considered the artifacts of a poor 'Shop than having any of the incongruencies of NK image.

This just epitomizes my whole beef with goods manufactured overseas.  There's just no craftsmanship.  They don't take pride in their work, don't check it, just crank it out and send it to market.

Our photoshopped fake shiat is way better.
