The man she claimed as the thief was already in Mobile Metro Jail at the time of the alleged incident on other charges.

So she claimed to know the guy? I'm confused.

I dated a nurse for a while. She wasn't crazy. She wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer, though. But that was made up for by being a demon in the sack.

I have a longtime friend with OCD who is a nurse. I can see how that sterile controlled environment might be appealing to her.

Nurses are the blue collar psyche majors of the dating scene.

She knew he was already in jail when she punched him?

Or she punched him, and then he went to jail so she made up the rest of the story?

I don't see it either. Purse rhymes with nurse, so maybe we're extrapolating evidence via poetry?

As far as I can tell, there's nothing in the article that says she's a nurse.

The internet sometimes reminds me of the children's game where everyone sits in a circle and the teacher whispers a phrase into the ear of one kid, who whispers it to the next, and by the last kid the original phrase has been distorted completely out of recognition.

Dated an incredible nurse once. She won many awards; was highly respected across the country. It was pretty amazing watching her grow from fresh out of nursing school to such a highly respected person. We dated for years...but towards the end things were pretty rough. I knew she was really raking it in at that point, but she wouldn't tell me how much. I stopped by one weekend and she had left a paystub on the table. I glanced at it when she went to the bathroom.
We're long separated now, but guess what one of the highest paid female nurses in the country makes?

Sandwiches.

Here's a link to the original article:

Since according to the story, three other people were involved, one has to wonder what, if anything REALLY happened, and who was actually arrested that day at the gas station.

I'm a nurse and I have noticed that there seems to be a higher level of mental health problems and drug problems among other nurses than among other people I know.  In my old job I worked with two nurses.  One of them had a borderline personality disorder diagnosis and the other was hospitalized in a psych unit for two weeks and came back to work with a bipolar disorder diagnosis.  I've worked with quite a few nurses who have had drug problems in the past.  Usually it has been prescription drugs that they've stolen from work and they've been censured or put on probation, but there's been a couple of ex meth addicts too.  The ex meth addicts were fun to work with.  They liked to stay busy and do all the work.

The weirdest thing is that even though I'm a guy, they give me way too much info because I'm a nurse.  I arrived at work a few weeks ago and asked one of my colleagues how she was doing.  Her response was, "I've got blood pouring out of my vag."  Awesome mental picture.

Purse is nearly nurse.  All you need for journalism these days is to jumble together words that are vaguely similar to the events you are trying to describe, then chop them off at the desired length.

Presto!  Buzzfeed just paid you eleven dollars!

So hand her a towel.

/Many people are aware of the messed up situation they are in, or have been raised in, and it compels them to pursue a field that fixes/studies it.  Like most psych majors are a mess.

To be fair to subby, the article was updated shortly after being posted. And commenters on TFA mention earlier stories referring to her working in the medical field.

Male nursing student, currently second year in a four year program. Let's just say that in about two years, there are going to be a lot of crazy, young early 20s teenage-minded girls coming to provide care in a health clinic near you.

This was a really unfortunate cutoff of the headline. It makes it sound like its a tale of puns and sharp witted jokers than a tale of woe and pain brought on by crazy.

My sis, the RN, would fit in with your crowd.  She did all sorts of partying and drugs during her hs and college days.  Funny thing is, her ex is the crazy one.  I never liked the guy, but I thought she would have been the one to lose it.

An uncle had told me how he broke his hand in a fight, then lied to the doctor to avoid the doc calling the cops.  He told him, he was adjusting his truck's side mirror when he went off the road just far enough to hit a mailbox, breaking his hand in the process.

I messed up my hand by punching an inanimate object in much the same way.  I also lied about it because it's embarrassing to say you broke your hand because you were mad and punched a wall, or whatever.

But did you say some guy who you randomly picked off of the police departments mug shot website caused you to break your hand because you beat him up while he was trying to mug you?

Au contraire, across the street from the middle school is exactly where you'd want to be able to make a quick getaway.

I'm with Gyrfalcon: if the alleged perp was already in jail at the time of the alleged attack, what's the deal with the three "witnesses?" Who did the two guys restrain until police arrived?

Some fine reporting there, Lou.
