I learned yesterday that that never happened. Which is odd, because I remember pointing it out to people in 2009 and '10.

So the Obama administration's signature piece of legislation, the crowing achievement of his reign, something supported almost unanimously by democratic members of congress is a Republican plan?

So Obama is supposed to personally oversee every aspect of it? He should have gone to the state website himself and called every number to make sure it's the right one?

Should we also blame higher insurance rates in states that refused to opt-in on Obama as well?

The G-23 Paxilon Hydrochlorate ... was supposed to calm the population, weed out aggression. (... ) They stopped going to work, they stopped breeding, talking, eating. There's 30 million people here, and they all just let themselves die.

Sure as I know anything, I know this - they will try again. Maybe on another world, maybe on this very ground swept clean. A year from now, ten? They'll swing back to the belief that they can make people... better. And I do not hold to that. So no more runnin'. I aim to misbehave.

The guy is taking credit for anything good that happens, like higher oil and gas production. If he gets to snap his galluses for stuff he had shiat to do with, he also gets the blame when teenage marauders take a baseball bat to my mailbox.

So, of course, I'm guessing you have citations to show he takes credit for anything good that happens, regardless of it's because of his policies or not?

Well, the word pax triggered the initial connection, then I got to thinking about plans by The Governmenttm to step in to make things better and how, often times, those plans go awry - sometimes spectacularly so. That got me thinking about how the notion of government-provided housing, food, medical care, utilities, schools, transportation, etc. can provide disincentives for seeking higher education and/or improved employment prospects (not that every recipient of any/all of these programs A- remains on the as long as possible, B- has a grand lifestyle, and C- becomes dependent upon the assistance, however there are certainly some that do).

From the view of how these programs can curtail an individual's prospects (and, indeed, their motivation for seeking gainful and self-sustaining employment), those participants that do succumb to a downward spiral of dwindling opportunity are much like the inhabitants of Serenity -- the "pax" of perpetual government dependence does lead to (certainly not all, but equally surely a non-trivial portion) folks 'just let themselves die ' (note the omission of "all" in the original quote).

So, yeah "They'll swing back to the belief that they can make people... better . And I do not hold to that ." That ain't what the contract with our government states as a function of theirs. Rather, they are to "...provide for the common defence [sic], [and] promote the general welfare...." The order and connection of the words is quite significant: over time, it seems as if the provide and promote have traded places (an argument for another day Is the performance of even promoting our common defense).

And I just like saying, 'I aim to misbehave." Joss sure has a way with words. That and, "she is starting to damage my calm" -- beautiful. Awesome (pubic relations indeed! - Nice hat.)
