Rivers has been really, really good this year, and his surrounding cast isn't as talented/deep as in years past.

But, no.

Matt Ryan is significantly higher than Dalton.

And there are about 5 QBs lower than Ponder.

Stupid list is stupid.

Andy Dalton is 4th in passing yards and, depending on what he does tomorrow, could be the 4th QB to ever go 4 games straight with 300 yards, 3 TD and a passer rating over 100.

And he's below Big Ben? Please.

How do you rank Alex Smith below the Eli Manning?  Smith may not be much, but at least he isn't tossing his team into a grave and throwing dirt on them.

Matt Ryan, overrated as usual.

My idea of "fantasy football" involves Ryan in a hideous teal uniform next year and the words "And with the first pick, the Falcons choose..."

Opie Andy Dalton is about right at 15. Still need some proof against real teams, a description which the Jets don't fit.

Kind of my thinking.  Sure the Chief Offense hasn't been amazing but Smith doesn't make mistakes and he's barely above a QB (Pryor) that just a couple of weeks ago had a 3rd and 48 and multiple picks.as well as a QB that is out for the year

2013-10-30 10:17:57 PM

no clever name here just move along: Aaron Rodgers number 2?

dafuq?

Well, to be honest, with all the injuries to the skill positions this year, the only parts of the offense that are the same from farking pre-season are the interior of the line, jordy nelson and aaron.

And they're 5-2 and in first place.

QBs get too much credit, and too much blame....surely. But A-Rod is pretty damn good right now considering he's throwing to Jared Boykin and *mublesomething* White and backup TEs.

2013-10-30 11:23:50 PM
The shock for me is Carson Palmer. I realized he had lost a step after the injury, but when I saw him two Thursdays ago he was arguably the stiffest quarterback in the whole league. If a Seahawk got within two yards of him the play was effectively over. Watching Tony McDaniel run him down was like watching that guy in Austin Powers yelling "noooooooo!" as the steam roller slowly approaches from 20 yards away. I had not expected to see that. He used to have decent-to-good mobility.

Pabst Blue Ryan should be way lower

Switch offensive lines and see who does better.  With the Steelers o-line, Ben has about .0002 seconds to do something that resembles anything.

To be fair Schiano is a complete asshole who sucks at coaching and Frazier once decided to have a QB who had no idea what he was doing chuck 53 interceptable balls while the best RB on the planet ran the ball 9 times. Josh is merely the vessel thru which incredibly shiatty coaching flows.

Peyton Manning has been playing behind 3rd stringers and has put up record numbers.  Good QBs read the D and get rid of the ball.

I would like to have seen them throw about 30 or 40 average college QB's (and maybe a couple of high school QB's as well) on to the list just to make sure Weeden is where he belongs... somewhere around 90th.  The fact that he's not at the very bottom of the list is terrifying because I can't actually imagine a worse QB collecting a paycheck for one season of futility that will be more than I make for the next twenty years.

ESPN's QBR agrees with you.

I hate that I don't know the formula, but I am going to be honest. A few seasons in this thing passes the eye test.

Not only that, but you have to have an offensive scheme that takes a shiatty o-line into account. Both Peyton and Rivers have o-lines made of construction paper and spit, but the entire offensive philosophy is dependent on reading the D at the line, calling the play there, and getting the ball out immediately. The reason Rivers is doing so much better this year is he's not playing Norv Turner's "7 step drop, wait 10 seconds for the play to develop" offense any more. I haven't watched any Stillers games, but I'll bet that they aren't playing that.

It's already happening. Seriously. But either way, Rodgers is #2 because he's consistent, throws few picks and makes smart decisions on the field (yes, and that sometimes involves getting sacked instead of forcing a pick which is frustrating at times). And he's throwing to Jordy Nelson, the new running back crew, and a bunch of receiving backups. His sixth year as a starter, and he's got an MVP, a Super Bowl MVP and a Lombardi trophy for a reason. He goes down, the entire ship goes with.

I defended him last year using the "no weapons" clause.  But this year, seeing him about as apples-to-apples as you can get against TWO other QBs (who are probably avg at best), I'm right with ya - he's shockingly lost out there.  He's so busy trying to get himself together that reading the D and changing protection / play call just doesn't get done in time.  For good players the game slows down, for BW it was spiralling out of control.  I think he's a really good guy, just not cut out of the job.

I really hope that the only reason he was #1 on the depth chart instead of #3 was his draft position and/or they were hoping he'd show something early and then trade him.  I have faith in this regime -- but this one concerns me a bit.

Depending what Christian Ponder does on Sunday, he could be the first QB ever to throw for 16 TD's in a game. That would make him a middle of the pack starter for sure.

I rank the top quarterbacks each week based on this season's play alone.

And yet he put Roethlisberger at 12.

I did the same - but there has probably never been as much of an apples to apples comparrion of 3 qb's in the same system, same guys, within such a short period of time - so yeah, I'm right there with you.  My hope (and it really is a hope) is that they needed to confirm what they already suspected, that they were going to have to cut a first round pick in year 3 and they didnt want the fans going apeshiat over it.

No one in this town will be surprised or upset next year when he is gone.  Really I would be more shocked if he was on the roster in any capacity.

Has Peyton had a bad game yet? A-Rodg (how we say it in my house) has had some bad moments across several games, not all of which can be blamed on factors other than poor throws or decisions. The last few games though, he looks locked in. If Denver has a few hiccups, you may see a closer MVP race at the end.//i wonder what goes through Brady's mind each time the clocks hit zero.

Even the biggest hater has to admit Rivers is having a great year.  He's doing it without his top two receivers while playing behind a patchwork line.

That being said, lists are stupid.  Just rank them by their number of rings.  That seems to be all anyone cares about anyway.

QFMFT

He's obviously not PManning quality (nobody else is), but he's making PManning-like play changes under center this year, which he wasn't allowed to do under Norv. It's made a world of difference on the offense.

he has been cooling off a bit with his bottom 3 performances coming in the last 3 weeks which makes me wonder if his sore cankles had anything to do this with (he had to rework his mechanics to allow his legs to do most of the work throwing the ball.

Still a 'bad' performance out of manning is 350 yards 4 tds 3 picks and a 68% completion percentage. Lack of a running game/offensive line is catching up with them a bit.
