(Gothamist)   Ever wonder why NYC subway Conductors are always pointing at the black and white striped boards you see at every station? Who cares, they're required to. Anyway let's have some fun with them   (gothamist.com) divider line 10

Interesting...

What does the sign actually say that the conductors are seeing?

Maybe starts with an M and has is on the second line.  It doesn't appear to be any of the options listed in the article.

Perhaps, "Make like this is really funny and you'll be on Youtube."

I think what the conductors are seeing is that they are not opening the doors so that people won't be falling on to the tracks. To not conduct themselves of course.

You know what's even more strange and archaic than having subway conductors point at a sign at every station?  Having subway conductors in the first place.

It's helpful drawing attention to meaningful things cause when you point people stare.

The conductor is not the driver on NYC trains. The conductor is mid train in a separate cab and on curved stations can't tell if the train is positioned correctly the board is a simple method to check if they're positioned correctly to open the doors so that passengers in the last car don't step out into a void if the driver stopped too soon.

you know what would be funny?  Go mess with people on their jobs.  Yea, and that woman that was holding the sign, I'm gonna go mess with her.  I'm gonna ask for a double latte, but hold the pickle and ketchup... hee hee!

Wow.  I've lived in NYC for close to 20 years and I never knew about the zebra sign.
